Why cant you resign someone and still be rebuilding? They feel they have a generational talent and don't want him to spend the next 4 years wishing he was back behind the iron curtain. The Flyers have the 2nd youngest team in the league and have 6 picks in the top 45 in a deep draft yr next yr. They also admittedly knew they would not make the playoffs after trading Walker and did so anyway. Sounds like a rebuild to me.

I'm not saying Michkov cared about who won... more like he has no concept of skilled players requiring goon babysitters coming from the KHL. Hell, skilled players don't require goon babysitters in the NHL anymore either. It's just an antiquated mindset and probably pretty bizarre thing to show a Russian who just got off the plane.

Any owner is gonna set parameters and expectations. And major moves (like TK's extension) do require the GM to seek approval.

Comcast probably will never give the hockey people the green light to tank. Hexy was denied that option. And based on how Briere talked when he first arrived, it doesn't seem like it was on the table for him either.

Well I disagree. They let them run the show. Maybe they should get involved as couldn't hurt. Parameter's and expectations are fine. Not buying the BS comcast wont let them rebuild. Not at all. It is the people they hired like danny boy making those choices

BS he was denied just another in a long line of incompetent GM's.

1. They had 94% capacity last year. I will make a bet with you right now this will go up and more importantly stay up.

2. The (in)direct proof is adding up the 2 and 2s over the years. And there have been many such 2+2s. Over so many years, there have been different GM's, different players, different CEOS. The team has never committed to a real rebuild, from even before the salary cap. If it was clear that going that route and marrying hockey success with financial success was a feasible path, it would have happened by now.

3, Brian Roberts doesn't run this franchise, Hilferty does. Individual McDnonald franchises are also "small wheel" in the McDonald empire. But McDonald incentivizes the smallest of them to make money each year.

The current formula (old guard, pride, Torts, etc) is allowed to persist by guys like Dave Scott and Hilferty, who are used to ruthlessly changing course in corporate matters if necessary for 1 reason alone: that formula works here, and it makes money.

If that’s how Comcast truly operates then we all need to get the (frank) out of dodge. Because they certainly don’t care about anything more than maintaining mediocrity.

Its not so much maintaining mediocrity or disdaining it, imo. If a rebuild was more financially profitable, it would have happened by now.

The Xfinity Center is undergoing an existential crisis. They are tying up with the Phillies to redevelop the area. Their primary tenant is trying their best to leave.

You want them to undergo several years of low attendance at this time?

Reddit (which I suspect has 20 times the viewership that HB does) is overjoyed at the signing.

Anyway, thats my take.

They were always going to trade Walker, and what did they get? An injured Johansson and a first round pick what will probably be in the mid to late 20's

This extension just makes it harder. It takes free agency off the table. Yes they have 6 picks but they need a top line center which traditional go top 5 in any draft. They likely won’t be bad enough now to make that happen.
