The picks needed to be dealt to improve the NHL roster two years ago, waiting 2 years alone lowers the value.

Is it reasonable to say that Adams still doesn't know what he has on the roster due to the losing and consistent failures?

Even with the moves made this season, hope is all this organization has.

- washedup20

Everyone on the roster, more or less, is a known commodity. You have a couple developing players like 18 year old Benson and Power, but for the most part you know what you're getting. Goalies are voodoo and prospects are prospects, so at this moment prospects are on the outside looking in to make this year's roster. That could maybe change especially if a kulich tears it open.

im not here to tell you adams is doing it right or wrong, or his decision making is good or bad. but they know what they have.

What we'll never know is if they were happy with the way it played out. I'd bet they had a different plan for a 2nd when they made the trade.

sure, absolutely. without digging into it, im not sure who in UFA could fill that malenstyn spot. not that we should care too much, just curious though.

So it's less about losing matt savoie and more about gaining ryan mcleod. That's fair.

I also refuse to believe that savoie's value was down simply because he didn't have the opportunity to play in rochester. that would be smooth brain management. there are plenty of players who get stuck in junior for D+2 who aren't shipped away. I just think there was a lot more going on than 'well he put up a lot of points as a 19/20 yo'.

I would think it comes down to his injury history, which is becoming extensive, the fact a top 10 pick didnt make his D+1 WJC team, his size and how effective he is perceived to be once he has to play against NHL players.

To me, yeah. Just not a big fan.

The injury history is definitely a knock. Can't argue that. Not sure how much that played a factor but certainly was a talking point, I'm sure. Good point.

It was a great trade acquiring him, its was a sackable offense trading him away for the return Adams accepted.

That's just lumped in with Risk, negative value. Size, negative value. Not making juniors, negative value. Any behind the scenes poop that Stripes mentioned, or otherwise, negative value.

what is this rumor you speak of
- TheSabresTaco

there is chatter that they view him as middle 6 and perhaps capable of playing wing on the second line

If you believe the reports, they still had open offer to Girgs as well.

I think Gerbe gets a little overexcited, but completely believe that they thought they were close on some bigger moves.

.

I would think it comes down to his injury history,.

- TheSabresTaco

this would not hold much weight when quinn signs a lengthy extension in the next 2 months

" has never showed out when the time came."

Guy was elevated at times and did nothing with it.

- DirtyDan

2 games here and there?

we have elevated other players who did nothing and given them lengthy extensions

Yeah Adams admitted he had an offer. It didn't seem realistic he was going to accept it though since like a month ago.

I agree, would have help the team to trade a prospect or two several seasons ago, but it wouldn't have changed the value of what we got for Savoie.

Trading Savoie the prospect (without packaging others in the trade) gets you a good young NHL 3rd liner (or an under achieving NHL player such as Mitts was early on) today or several years back.

Most people don't like the trade because prospects are lottery tickets, and you are better severed when you wait and know what you have before trading them. Unfortunately we have arrived at a place where we couldn't really wait, so we have to hope its not a winning Powerball ticket (probably be OK if its just a winning scratch-off ticket).

Gotten a legit 3C? I think they expect him to be one this year.

What’s your opinion, does he fill the #3 position at center for the season?

Kasper? I think he's a full time C there at some point this season.

No argument at all. Definitely a big squandered chance. I wonder if they'd coughed up the coin if he ever would've reached the level he did with the Panthers, but we'll never know.

I'd argue the juniors thing was more about age than anything else, but no way to know. I think all of these things are just further reason to keep him, let him play a year of pro hockey, then either call him up or do this trade. Short of him having a major, major injury, I think you can get a 3C for him now or next year. We aren't a contender with or without McLeod, so it was just a hurry up trade to try and save Adams' skin.

McLeod

Will he be a good 3c for the Sabres relative to other 3c nhl players?
