For this teams personalities and dynamics, which players do think might be doghouse candidates? Peterka comes to mind, but I have nothing to base that on. - BuffaloHerd
If you have nothing to base it on, why does Peterka spring to your mind?
Not being able to close, been a problem since Adams took over. - Buff36
I question how hard they've really tried to make a big move.
Their track record is being overly comfortable with all of their own players, with an organizational goal seeming to be a fringe 8th seed playoff budget cap team.
Nothing they've done this offseason has changed that.

Don't think he tried hard at all. You can't build a team solely through the Draft. And as his prime Draft picks are loosing value he decides to improve his bottom 6.
Salary cap for me is also an issue if we add a top 6 forward.
Moving greenway helps with 3 mill for this year.
But I’m thinking down the line. 2-3 years.
Cap wise. It’s going to be hard to keep the band together.
Everyone will want raises. I understand the cap goes up. But not by that much - Sabretooth9
Cap should be No issue for the Sabres. Adams has locked all these long term contracts with nothing to prove they were worth it. Any good GM would have No problem with the Sabres Cap

cong, you have been on these boards a long time. And this is a serious ? How is this Team not in the playoffs already. IMO with the assets had over the last 5 years it's a Total Failure.

Well, they should be ok, however their Cap position does limit them in making major additions, unless their is a fair amount of Cap going out. So, more modest moves should be expected.
As an example, the projected Cap increase of $4m to $92m for the '25-'26 season is quickly reduced to $1m extra by the $3m increase in Skinners BO amount. Further, savings from player contracts expiring like Zucker's $5m, Greenway's $3m, Joker's $3.1m, will be absorbed and exceeded by presumed contract extensions to JJP, Quinn, Byram, McLeod and Levi.
My guess is that they will have about ~$2m to play with to add to their roster when Bonus charges are considered.
Further, '26-'27 season Cap increase of say $4m will likely be reduced by 50% due to the increase in Skinner's BO of $2m over the '25-'26 hit.
They had better do everything humanely possible to ensure Kulich, Rosen, and Johnson are ready to go and contribute not just fill a spot.

They won’t even end Kim’s actual suffering, how can you expect them to be humane with their roster?

Easy.
Missing the signals and not taking appropriate action to improve the roster.
Add in the brashness of their core players electing to take a year off rather than holding each other accountable and blaming their coach...translated, the real leader of this team is NOT on the roster yet.

Going to be ugly in here if/when the Sabres miss the playoffs again and Skinner is scoring goals in the conference finals for Edmonton. - kingcong39
Skinner was never part of the solution.
Edmonton is odds-on favorite to win next year. Not a leap.
Jeff Skinner on a Cup contender for $3M is a great deal and was never materializing here. Get over it. He's gone and it is stupid to continue to lament someone who was never elevating your team.

Novikov, believe he will turn into a better version - Buff36
I am hoping Sammy stays healthy and contributes as a Top4 Dman. That resolves a ton of issues, but does introduce a conundrum for the 3rd Pair of Joker and Cliffy on who to play on the left.

On the flip side, it is dumb to let go of ~30G's and 60pts with no plan (just hope) to replace it, especially when the team traded away another 60 point player earlier in the season.
Their plan seems to be hoping the core returns to career years.

Addition by subtraction.
Skinner played half a game and when he was not scoring he hurt the other half of the game. To keep him around just to keep him around was pointless.
Again, we were not winning with him here. Try something different instead of wash, rinse, repeat.
Make trades - oh, not that trade.
Make changes - oh, not that change.
