I don't think they really cared about the back half of this buyout, the 2. Something million. We'll need to see how they utilize his space within the next 36 months but I suspect they'll utilize it better without him here than had he been here.

I wouldn't go so far as to call him an albatross, especially with his history of bouncing back every other year. He's just moving away from being a decent fit on this team.

Well. As speculation... The NHL allows teams to curb a cap hit and fit their player into their roster however they like with bonuses and base. Sometimes you need to front load, sometimes back.

But the NHL will make you pay for that bonus loading if you get rid of that player.

5 points in 10 games for the ducks before he got hurt last season playing almost 22 minutes a night and they were all 5 on 5 points

he is a legit top 4 d man, closer to a number 2 than a number 5

but if it makes you sleep well at night, pile on me some more

I was responding to the injury perspective. On other teams the injury can be overlooked. For instance, Savoie, now that he is an Oiler is not injury prone but as a Sabre he was. Quinn is already due an injury next season as is Sammie.

Hes very inconsistent, and not good in his own end. Sure he has potential to be a real top 4 D but he is not one at he current time I said. And does not earn the designation of one just cause he played 20+ minutes on a bad team.

Jamie Drysdale and Erik Johnson provided similar value to their respective teams last season.

Philly got robbed because Gauthier is that good, not because Drysdale is bad IMO. He's still only what, 21? It'll be 3-4 years until he reaches his ceiling. I honestly can't see why he's a bottom pairing guy but to each their own my friend.
