I think McLeod was traded with the future in mind. Resigning Henrique made it an option for them to use McLeod to land a young skilled prospect primarily for the future. They will soon need a cheap bottom six (so McLeod probably could not be there long term) and having a cheap young top six player (Savoie) to inject into the line up will significantly help offset the new contracts for Leon and McDavid. - BuffaloHerd

I would agree with that, not sure what to do with it.
An interesting question for the current roster:
Would you prefer to keep McLeod + Byram or swap them for Mitts + Savoie?

Know you weren't asking me, but will cast a vote:
McLeod + Byram for today, but likely Mitts + Savoie in the future. Some of that does hinge on contracts though. |

Counterpoint.
We haven’t seen him play one second for Buffalo and don’t really know what his floor/ceiling are.
For the last 10 minutes of the Stanley cup final The only forwards to see the ice were McDavid, Draisaitl and Hyman. What’s a guy supposed to do.
The coach (frank)ed that situation up beyond belief. |

I think they should trade McLeod. dude already proved he’s a worthless bum.
And that’s insulting to Bums.
What do you think they could get back a future 7th, not sure if McLeod is enough to even get that.
May have to trade him with a future first just to get rid of him. |

Good question.
I don't see Byram or McLeod as short term solutions to generate more wins, they just add to the hype of potential the group has. You have to hope they trend upwards with their play.
Mitts was the best forward for a significant portion of last season. The GM is now looking to add top 6 talent, in a must win now season.
Savoie is irrelevant to me.
I would've preferred to keep Mitts, and add a strong, physical dman to the top 4.
having said all of this, the roster is still way to mentally soft, while relying on their talent to try to find wins.

If a coach plays McLeod over McDavid, I would bet his nickname is Meatball.

While I’m not sold on the team yet.
Lafferty, Aube-Kubel, Zucker have all been on winning teams and can hopefully provide leadership.
Not Okposo and Girgensosns leadership. Actual things to help this team prepare mentally and physically.

I hear you and as much as I despise this front office...hope you're right...however:
The change in depth players will be meaningless if the top 6 play to their career averages again. |

It's very possible - even probable - that he's a better fit than either for 3C - Hank Balling
Touche, I would be curious to see McLeods #'s playing with the linemates Mitt's had last season in Buffalo.
Watch Ruff put him at 2LW.

My bet is he plays 3C with Zucker and Greenway on the wings and everyone says he sucks when he finishes the season with elite defensive numbers and 35 points. |

Zucker-McCleod-Greenway
Malenstyn-Lafferty-NAK/Krebs
Is a really good bottom 6. It's balanced, speedy, truculent and can score a little bit. The questions are in the top 6 imo |
|
|
|
My biggest questions at forward in no particular order are:
Can tage stay healthy
Is cozens a 65 point center (emphasis on the position)
Is benson a top 6 player (let's just say this year)
Can quinn stay healthy
That's 4 questions for 6 positions
I really have no questions about the bottom 6 other than the faceoff point. McLeod is good and the other guys are fast and hit - good enough. |

Get Zegras. Flip flop he and Cozens throughout the year at 2nd line C.

I get what you’re saying, but
97 was exhausted and spent by the last 2 minutes. McCleod’s line was causing some problems for FL in the series. Oil coach blew it by not giving them even a sniff and instead running top line into the ground as the third went on. |

If Skinner was on this team it would look a lot better
I will not apologize for this take |

they saw mcleod play for over 3 years and decided to bring henrique back in a cup or bust year and move on from mcleod

The average age of the oilers is pretty dang high.
The old school gm is saying keep the veteran player and let the young guy go.
When it should be the opposite |

I’ve been saying that also. If Lindy doesn’t fix tage, tuch, and cozens. We will still be in trouble. They can’t produce 60% of 2 years ago.
I think a lot of those point dips were also because of the lack of PP points. Which we all know our PP sucked |

The GM was just hired, after the trade was made.
The old GM was already out before the trade was made.
