Best compared to who though? Someone currently under contract or via trade or UFA?

Trade or UFA. I would’ve signed Zadorov and let Lindgren go.

Lindgren 193 lbs
Fox 185 lbs
Jones 176 lbs

Recipe for disaster come playoff time.

I don’t think size is what doomed the rangers against the panthers. It was their inability to clear the zone. Which Jones should theoretically help with.

That Zadorov contract likely won't age very well

...

The Rangers don't have money to go and get anybody of value. They have enough to sign Lindgren and maybe another ____ special. Which I'm sure you and I won't like.

Why do you make say it?

I don’t think Zac Jones helps the Rangers beat the Panthers. I also don’t think having 3 small defenseman is a recipe for success in the playoffs. They’re going to get worn down with all the extra hitting and physical play, which is what we’ve seen with Lindgren time and time again. Love the player, love the heart, unfortunately his body just can’t hold up to that style of play and part of it is his size.

Zadorov signed for 5 million. Lindgren will get 4+

Sign Zadorov for free, trade Lindgren and get some assets back and save the 4+ million/put it towards Zadorov. This isn’t rocket science and what should’ve been done.

If I had the ability roll back time, sure. Or, if the Rangers didn't have ____ in charge, maybe.

What would you like me to do about this situation other than voice my very rational and smart opinion about the state of the team?

I don't agree with your "can only have 1 dman under 6 ft" checklist for a team's dmen, but I do agree with you that I wouldn't be thrilled with Fox, Jones and Lindgren in our top 6. It's not anything against Jones either I think he's decent and is realistically probably our best option at this point.

I disagree about Zadorov. I think that contract is going to be horrible. He had a good playoffs but he has bounced around a lot and has not been very good. I'm all for bringing in size and moving on from Lindgren but I would want someone better than Zadorov

at the very least we can start the season with Jones and if we need to make a move at the deadline and pick up somebody with more bodyweight - then we do it. I think Jones has earned a shot.

This is a reasonable take and the most likely scenario which I have no problem with

Same. One of the main reasons we lost to the Panthers was because our Norris winning defenseman was playing on one leg and our captain on one ankle....in turn limiting their ability to skate the puck out of the zone effectively. Both injuries sustained had nothing to do with the player being a certain size. Lindgrens on the other hand did. And there's certainly an argument to be made about the wear and tear on his body. But at 26, I think we still have a handful of good years left in him. And the team plays better with him in the lineup for whatever reason

I thought he made good strides in his development during his last stint. He looked more decisive and confident.
We should all remember that D-man develop differently than forwards. Giving him a shot I am good with too. Never know, he may just step up. I do believe he is an upgrade of Gus, specifically in the break out skating department.

Then we will be watching a human magic show. Guess his contract is vacated and we will sign or trade for someone. Problem solved.

Then we plug and play until the deadline. A bad 6th dee man is not going to keep us out of the playoffs imo

Here’s where IMO Drury has failed at managing assets.

Zadorov, IMO is an upgrade/net neutral to Lindgren.

We’ve all pretty much agreed about Lindgrens longevity and it being only a matter of time before he starts to break down.

Jones is a good player, I was impressed with him in the lineup last year and think he could be a great addition for A team, but doesn’t fit the need of THIS team.

If Drury was smart, he would’ve traded Jones for a 2nd round pick.
Lindgren for a 2nd+
And signed Zadorov for free.

That’s asset management.

Instead he continues to trade away picks for rentals without ever replacing them. He’s a me first, worry about my own skin before the NYR as an organization/future.

Are Dube Foote Hart McLeod and Forementon all UFA’s? Or at least the ones eligible to be? I know there was talk about the teams retaining the rights without having to make an offer or something until everything cleared up. Is that still the case/did that happen?
