Amateur scouting can look for a project turning into a bottom 6er or depth D.

With the roster looking deeper maybe PA is deciding on giving up on & moving aging prospects for picks. Capital for trades or draft maneuvering. More present & future options always good to add.

All were picks for a ceiling when so many others passed up who had a higher floor to begin with. None of those were safe picks hence squandered. If you’re picking in the 1st round you gotta get an impact player for starters. Risk/Reward imo is a good thing but those were all hope picks. In fact all 3 coulda slid down the draft & trade the 1st or move down could not have hurt.
