Why do I care what others thought? Who said those teams didn't make an error of judgement? - J35Bacher
Those teams could have made a mistake, the draft is a crapshoot as we should all know. But your judging Buium being a top 5 player in the draft based on rankings from various sites that are not afiliated with any NHL team. Meanwhile real NHL teams develop their own internal player rankings, and of those teams, the first 12 of them had other players ahead of Buium. That's just fact. |

And how does repeating the same talking points everyday to the same 6 people help? 😂
At least once a day, like a goldfish who forgot that it ate, someone unironically makes the “Torts is going to bench MM/he better stop a puck with his face” comment. Without fail.
BOOO-RINGGG 😆
Who’s dumber? The fan that cheers their team on or the fan who b!tches and moans every day on a message board about a team they say they “can’t stand” or are “done with”?
Talk about a waste of energy. If you’re not enjoying it what are you in this for? What do you get from this? - anti-lame
You are like the HB Flyers stalker. You just can’t look away. All of the talk you put up about being unhealthy yet here you are every - single - day. You appear to hate everything that is said yet you HAVE to comment every day. Talk about unhealthy…

Doesn't matter. Take the flyers out of the equation. With Buium and Luchenko still available how many teams pick Buium and how many pick Luchenko. We already know the answer. The Wild would have picked Buium after the flyers picked had they not swapped spots. Almost positively Buffalo or Detroit would have taken Buium had the Wild not drafted him. |

The plan from the very beginning was for Kolosov to come over here and get his feet wet. It was never that he would come here and immediately start playing. This was clearly communicated to him based on what Bill reports. - jd250
can you share a link to these reports |

So the choice for Briere was to pick Buium who has a good chance to be a top 4 defenseman but has a very low chance of being an elite 1D defenseman, or picking Luchenko who they felt has that ceiling of being a true 1C. I pick the player that has the best chance of being a 1D or 1C player. - jd250
Luchanko. Get the future 1C's name right. |
|
|
|
If Buium is truly thought of as a guaranteed 1D and elite defenseman, why was he available to the Flyers at 12? This narrative that Buium was the right pick is just not correct since clearly 12 teams didn't think he was. - jd250
He has elite talent and skill. That is why you take him. Whether he turns into a #1 is a diff conversation.
Try using some context why 12 teams “passed” on him.
Really cracks me up how you and other defends this turd organization. All the facts are there to validate they are a turd organization. Yet you look the other way.

It's very tempting to think this way right now, when none of these players have played a single pro game yet in North America, well Gauthier played 1 game last year. Let's check back next year and see if you feel that same way about any of these players. BTW, Michkov is not a lock either. - jd250
it isnt tempting at all. yes cutter has played an nhl game.
keep defending. pure entertainment.
Do you think any other team would want MM-JD-Jett over MM-Cutter-Buium? |

Completely different circumstances. Petersen is not part of the future of this team. Kolosov may be. Also there no other goalies in the system ready for the AHL at this point. The other thing to consider is Kolosov is Russian and doesn't have to even come here or honor any contract in place; for example there is no way for the Flyers to enforce Kolosov cannot play for any other team. Thus for these reasons concessions have to be made. I don't like it, but I have to accept it. - jd250
I'm laughing hysterically right now. When veteran players such as Staal played over younger players. Was Staal part of the future of this team? Will Johnson be a part of the future of this team!
The part about Kolosov coming over or not is irrelevant to the fact that you're being inconsistent from your previous positions. As usual.

well the flyers are the only ones who believe he has #1 potential. There is nothing out there to show otherwise. Since the flyers amateur scouts have not shown the ability to draft all that great the odds are against it. |

How can Luchanko possibly be a future 1C when 12 teams passed on him? That's the rationale you used for why Buium won't be a 1D.
How many NHL teams passed on David Pasternak, Nikita Kucherov, Brayden Point and Jason Robertson to name a few? |

I don't just read reports and regurgitate the information. I watch a lot of hockey. The fact Buium was one of the youngest college hockey players and was playing as well as he did was something that caught me. I know Jett is young too, but he is also competing against kids more his age and and physical build.
Also, with the plan I thought would be better for the Flyers, the 2025 and 2026 draft has better centers. I would have traded Konecny and Laughton, tried to be a team to pick in top 5 and get my center then.
Jett I fee was a need pick instead of BPA. Maybe it works but wasn't how I thought they should have went about it.

The flyers scouts are decent at finding NHL players. They aren't good at finding gems in the rough that turn out to be star players.

Believe me over the next few years we will be comparing every player and how they turn out. Gauthier, Drysdale, Bonk, Perreault, Buium, Luchanko.....
Most of us are hoping we aren't seeing another Jagr vs Ricci, Makar vs Patrick etc situation.
I hope Bonk and Luchanko turn out great.

I can't wait to see the contracts for Foerster and York. The Flyers will surely show us how they do not fall in love with players. |

But Brent Flahr is a draft god, with a level of intuition and prescience that other teams can only envy, solely responsible for the long track record of success that the Wild and Flyers have both enjoyed over the decades.
