The contract thing (AHL 1 way) means he is most definitely starting in the AHL - barring something that curves Tre to update the co tract status.

But it’s solid because if he pans out and Leafs have need or they just want to have him middle 6 they can look at cap and number contracts and bring him in and maybe move someone out that may make more or fill a role they don’t need.

He averages 34 goals per 82 games but could easily hit 40 again if he's sober, healthy and playing with the Leafs top line PP.

saw some discussion that since he signed an AHL deal, they can try him out, and if they want to sign him to play with the leafs, they can. if not..he can go back to the marlies and not have to worry about waivers.

Either way works but loading up one big line is necessary sometimes to overwhelm your opponents. McDavid and the Oilers do it all the time in different scenarios.

Matthews and Marner are world class two-way players. If Laine is a liability, it's balanced. It's also such a heavy top line, the other team will have a lot of trouble getting it out of their zone which means less time playing D for that line too.
