No. My gut tells me that Sullivan is out in Pittsburgh after 2024-25 and as Tortorella's buddy and "protege", Tortorella would be willing to step aside and forego the final season of his contract as HC. Tortorella would then become a senior advisor at the same salary in 2025-26. If not Sullivan, maybe Shaw.

He's the final active NHL head coach born in the 1950s. He'll be 67 by the time the 2026-27 season starts. I don't think he's extended as HC. Still part of the organization on the hockey ops side as a senior advisor, I think is likelier.

In a roundabout way it is hockey related. If the country goes to hell in a hand basket and nobody can afford to go to a hockey game and tv ratings drop as consumers cut the cord the NHL product will suffer.

Coots might bounce back a little better this year with it being another year away from back surgery but he had a decade of hard miles on him before that contract was given.

You can have XY chromosomes and be female. (In the sense of having a female reproductive system, having the ability to menstruate, develop breasts, carry a child to term, and then nurse it).

I don't know what the situation is. I favor swab tests and ruling out such cases in the future. But I do know what the situation almost certainly isn't. It is not the case of a man transitioning to become a woman and choosing a gender that is completely different from her sex or hiding her male self throughout her life. That would be absolutely ludicrous in Algeria. Why would her traditional family register her as a female if she was born male? In a very male chauvinistic society, it would be the other way around. Males get far more privileges.

Further, her so called "test" by the Russian run IBA occurred right after she defeated a hitherto unbeaten Russian fighter. The IBA is run by an associate of Putin and is mostly based in Russia. The notion of Russian agencies, with their history of cheating systematically, accusing other agencies of covering up is also pretty funny.

Finally, Khelif has lost many times to women whose own gender identity has never been in doubt.

There is no reason at all to drag this story into a culture war. If this had happened 30 years ago or throughout human history before that, you would never even have known about the issue and she would have been allowed to box as female.
