The Flyers being last on the PP under Rocky is not news, but to see that their PP GF/60 is only 3.9 when the next worst team is at 5.3 would make a real franchise can Thompson's useless ass immediately.

The critical takeaway though for teams (and their roster building attempts) is to understand this relationship has changed, and efforts to find talent — not reduced purely to on-ice skill; coaching and deployment strategies can have a significant impact on performance, too — are increasingly important.

I can't see Abols playing above the fourth line, so that would mean Poehling goes back to the top six to top nine like he was in the late portion of last season (depending on the usage within a game). I'm not personally in favor of that, but I'm hearing stuff about how there's more offense just waiting for Poehling to unlock (on more than a very sporadic basis). So it's not impossible.

Poehling should be entrenched on the 4th line. He was good in that role in MTL and PIT. MTL elevated him some to top 6 but they quickly moved him down the lineup. PIT sparingly tried him in the top 9. He’s only 25 but he is what he is. He can’t provide sufficient secondary scoring to warrant top 9.

Torts used him as the 1C in must win game 82.

those types have organizational value. though when rated that high that isn't all that good.

no idea what to expect from him though will be interesting watching.

Those are really good numbers at NCAA. So I would think he has a chance in the next year or two….he is 23, so he needs to take advantage of any opportunity.

According to most of their fans they do need a right handed defenseman. Bonk plus would make a lot of sense with Drysdale here and Sanheim signed for another 4 seasons but the Flyers fall to much in love with their own prospects to make such a move.

That looks like a bit of an overpay and I don’t think Anaheim would have much interest in Frost. It’s a shame Ristolainen is hurt because it does look like Verbeek has a bit of a size fetish right now.

At this point I don't really want to give up assets. My hope is to land in the top 5 for 2025 draft to hopefully get my center then.

Hagens, Frondell, and Rayabkin look to be the top centers available.

I mean is Zegras a top center or just a top center for the Flyers because they lack that in the system?

I like Zegras just not sure if that is the right move at this time.

Think about it, between MM and TZ, they'd be Michigan'ing Torts right into the insane asylum/loony bin.

Don't sleep on Hunter MacDonald. Saw him with the Phantoms in Wilkes-Barre. Has good size and moves well. Decent shot. Didn't mind the physical game.

Myers, Hagg and Morin had good size, moved well, had a big shots from the point and didn't mind the physical game either.

Without good hockey sense it's hard to be an everyday NHL defenseman.

NHL front-office confidence rankings, 2024: How fans feel about every team

20. Philadelphia Flyers
Last year: 24th

“I’m worried they are conflating building a competitive culture with the team being good, and sacrificing a lot of long-term value by being too good during their rebuilding years. But a huge improvement on talent evaluation/creativity over last few regimes.”

“Briere’s tenure hasn’t been perfect, but all in all it has been drastically better than the days of Chuck Fletcher.”

A few years ago the Flyers were at the very bottom of this list, forcing a new era of orange to take over. Things are starting to get better both in fan and public sentiment, but there’s still a lot of work to be done — work that was made more difficult by Philadelphia’s shocking run to 11th in the East last season.

That run put the Flyers in a tough spot: An obviously rebuilding team at the deadline that was on track to make the playoffs. How the Flyers handled that spoke volumes about their ability to manage both short- and long-term goals simultaneously. They maintained a lot of their winning culture while still keeping an eye on the future with a minor selloff.

Some don’t think the Flyers went far enough in that pursuit and feel vindicated by the late-season plunge that unsurprisingly pushed the Flyers out of the playoffs. In a more pessimistic sense, the Flyers tried to have it both ways and got stuck in no man’s land.

It’s a difficult balance to strike given the position the Flyers were in, and it means the Travis Konecny extension could be seen as the right move for the wrong team.

Aside from that, there were also mixed reactions to the 2024 draft — especially in the face of the euphoria surrounding Matvei Michkov. After hitting that home run, there was some disappointment with the team trading down from Zeev Buium to select Jett Luchanko. That helps explain a draft ranking that’s far lower than how the public views things.

Sounds about right.

Even some of those GMDB cheerleader optimists were shaken by the TK extension.

Rocky and Lappy are part of The Club. Results/data don't matter.

I suspect MM will improve the PP results and therefore take Rocky off the hook. The old boys club will laude him.
