You beat me to it. The only other news is Toronto is taking the C from Johnny and giving it to Matthews
- picklerick

Has there been an update on the numbers? I'd be curios but cant find it on Twitter

It's always an interesting dynamic when a C is taken from someone and given to another. When was the last time that happened? I was thinking Luongo but he stepped down himself.

Recent history, it has worked 1 time? Derek McKenzie to Aleksander Barkov. Waiting was the hardest part.

Wonder what betting odds I could get for the this?

I feel like people are going to really make up a lot of storylines about that news that don't exist. Doubly so because it's Toronto.

The only story adjacent to Tavares giving up the C that may be a little interesting is whether or not this decision is indicative of his future there after this season. He'd probably have to take a massive pay cut to stick around and he may prefer to go to a team that's a little more set up for playoff success if he's going to take a major salary reduction.

Certainly possible, but he's a pretty competitive guy and has had almost zero success getting out of the first round of the playoffs, let alone any actual success. I'm more than willing to bet that, if he doesn't stay with Toronto, he's going to pick a team that has an actual chance at going to the Cup.

My money would be on the Stars. They already have some cap space and Benn/Duchene/Dadonov all will come off the books after this season and they have the added benefit of having no state income tax. One of the best teams in the NHL and he'll be more than able to maintain a low profile which would probably be a nice change after being a full blown celebrity in Toronto.

$4.58 for Broberg --> 2nd round pick if not matched
$2.29 for Holloway --> 3rd round pick if not matched

Wonder what Edmonton does

I think the Sharks did it with Marleau/Thornton/Pavelski. And they made it to the finals in 2016 in the middle of that.

I have been a fan of this team since 1962 and when a team wins one cup in 83 years do people outside N.Y. think we should be happy about that when we see Chicago and Tampa win multiple cups in a 5-10 years period? Drury has now traded our 2nd round pick 4 years in a row. We will not have another one until 2028. The season hasn't started yet and already fans are looking to the deadline for a trade. I don't like these deadline deals because 80-90% of them don't work out and as each year goes by the price for these deals is getting higher and higher. Teams have a whole year to figure out what they need to win a cup and to me it makes no sense to make a trade at the deadline when the cost is through the roof! Not to mention the fans who want every star player on this team. Heck you have people already wanting them to get Laine from Columbus! Star giving the kids in our own system a chance instead of trading for a veteran who's best years are behind him.

Yeah but then said young players turn out like Kakko and fart noises ensure. Lose-lose. I want Laine. For entertainment value only.

#stlblues have tendered offer sheets to both #Oilers Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway.

Edmonton has 7 days to match the offers.

Just watched painfully an interview with Igor, in Russian, and he was saying KK is training really hard and he thinks KK will have a monster season.

Im hoping he does!!!

You've been a fan since 1962 but can't understand why teams wait until the trade deadline to make deals? Sheesh. Here are a few reasons:

1) More cap flexibility
2) Better understanding of team need/help
3) Knowledge of where you sit in the standings
4) You know where your competition is at that point moreso than the beginning of the year

Also, I am sure GM's explore plenty of trade options that are never spoken about publicly during the offseason. Other GM's are likely more inclined to trade players when they know their end goal is farther and farther away from being attained

Lastly, I don't have the exact %, but I would be willing to bet the % of 2nd rounders being contributing NHL players are low. I, for one, am okay with the team moving some seconds in efforts to putting them over the top. Obviously no one has a crystal ball so we can't tell if those moves will in fact do that when they are being made

Trust in Shesty's evaluation? I hope so too. Practice/Training translating to in game performance sometimes fails. I am routing for the kid. He has a lot of talent, just hasn't come together.

I think their center depth is fine. I'd look for a team that's maybe lacking down the middle a bit.

I would've said Boston if they hadn't sign/extended Elias Lindholm this summer. One of his cornball "interviews" when he didn't re-sign with the Isles was with Boston.

Frankly, I think he'd be more likely to sign with the Rangers than the Devils. Although not sure he'd be prepared to up the hatred from Isles fans to a whole new level

A declining Tavares would be a such a Rangers move.

Please no.

Sadly, there may be a bonehead path for such shenanigans. Chytil retiring due to medical issues and Drury rushing to fill the void.

I see JT re-signing in Toronto. He will be 35 starting that season and grew up there. He's in the twilight of his career and where he always wanted to be. Toronto will still be a Cup threat. He's also earned over $100M in his career. He would be a good weapon for them as a 3 or 4C on a reasonable contract if that's the way he decides.

I'd pay a little bit of money to listen to Sam and Butch call a game together. It would be an entire broadcast of complete jibberish.
