Funny how you cherry pick things to fit your narrative.

To the Hawks, he's apparently worth $4.5M per year. Which at this point in time isn't a bad thing/big deal. I don't think you could make any argument that he would ever get that on the open market with a team that isn't in the unique position that the hawks are. It's not just the point production. His age showed last year and he'd have to be sheltered on a team that was contending, otherwise, he'd get turnstiled too often.

Just like Perry wasn't worth near what he received from the Hawks, but they needed to entice players somehow and had plenty of space.

Edit: Sorry, to answer your question, I'd guess somewhere around 1-1.5/year. Cam Atkinson comp?

I understand the overpay due to where the Hawks are, but for two years, nah. He would get no more than $1M for one year on the open market. I like JD as well, and agree that his numbers will go down this year unless LR plays him on the second line for some reason. I still think that eventually this team is going to need a skilled 2nd line center with size.

I think that's going to be either Boisvert or Moore. I know Moore isn't tall, but he's built strong and I've not seen many knock him off a puck.

As we've said several times already, I think the most interesting part of this rebuild will be who actually makes it and who KD brings in from the outside.

Well i believe there are 2 different paths for veteran players who have been playing for a while and are good role models.

One path is chasing the cup, these players have to take a lesser contract since these teams are already pressed against the cap.

The second is a leadership role on a rebuilding team. That contract Killorn signed at that age with Anaheim is quite the over pay, Calgary signed Backlund, think there are a few others.

By the way Foligno is 36 and Ehlers has made plenty of nhl players look bad.

Bear in mind that Foligno is not getting paid for what he does on the ice but off of it as well. He has been a great mentor to Bedard. Remember what he said on the bench. I have so much to teach you that I might have to stick around for a couple of years after I am done. Well, KFC gave him his couple of years and paid him to do what he said. Teach.

I’m not doubting he COULD get the money. He literally did from CHI, and there are examples elsewhere. My only contention is there are precious few teams that have both the situation and money to do something like this. The timing has to be right as well as the fit as opposed to most NHL situations where they just look at the production/numbers and how likely he is to hold up for a full season and possibly playoffs.

Virtually every team in the NHL was in on Necas and he wasn't traded. Are the Canes mad at everyone? Necas most likely wasn't traded because they were not able to re-sign Guentzel (thus had a better lineup spot and available funds) and the returns they were hearing weren't as high as they wanted (which were reported to be astronomical).
- Chunk

Probably some over valuing. Seems like the Canes were asking for the moon for a player that hasn't put it all together yet.

So what's Foligno worth? Can we answer the question?

Washington is bringing in Veana on a tryout basis?
I would be wary to bring him in for the Blackhawks on a tryout basis but, of course, this is now a moot point since the Capitals are giving him an opportunity

There will be players either shopped or available most likely shopped throughout training camp and in the early going of the NHL season

Maybe even Vrana

While I would find some solace in a veteran acquisition like Vrana probably could add some much needed scoring even merely spotted with Bedard, the better strategy for KD is to play the prospects in camp The more they play at this level even in exhibition contests, the sooner they incrementally improve and begin to understand the commitment and pace of professional hockey. They will be told and learn on their own where they need to improve or gain better understanding of their role in the NHL

Beside Hayes, th we e are several prospects who will play AHL as well as junior and collegiately this season. Those who actually are in camp and wind up sticking around a while before being farmed out, are going to benefit their career and the Blackhawks once they make it to the NHL. Young blood. The desire to succeed amongst ever growing list of prospects is a very good sign. I truly hope and actually sort of expect a lot of kids filtering in combined with the style of play they offer/KD’s emphasis on competitiveness……makes us better and better sooner

Just Hayes hopefully this season and we’ll Nazar most likely should be a given oossibly making opening night roster and not looking back.

The prospects are coming. I wouldn’t say it is the gold rush but am anxious particularly next season when the kids are all another year advanced in development plus we have drafted our #1 ‘25

The White Sox many years ago had an advertisement for their upcoming season: the kids can play

I believe we have a nice set of prospects already and they can play. The sooner the better

I am planning to watch the Icehogs closely this season and do not know what is the best quality feed/broadcast (paid) either Rockford site or AHL site. Anyone had a feed last season - how satisfied were you with quality of broadcast?

Stan had hus share of transactions which did not turn out well. Good intention but he also had some overpayment. Yet as for KD, no mistakes so far. Solid strategy, good decisions on roster and drafting under KD

Now here's something of interest:
Watch the difference in performance, specifically smarts, experience/ know how between the junior dmen signed to play in the rookies tournament + Leveshunov vs the prospects with professional experience, namely Allen and Del Maestro.

Then observe the dmen prospects in the exhibition season. Receive a sampling of the development process

So all of our 1st round picks of the last 3 years are in the top 100 or the NHL.

Can't wait till those later picks start to develop.

You know maybe KD can get a 1st round pick from the Oilers in '26 by taking on Kulak and Ceci's contracts

And do what, make them sit the year? You basically have 2 maybe 3 spots available this year for Vlasic and KK/Kaiser/EDM/whoever... and I really don't think Vlasic is losing a spot.

Hard to say what they will have to give up. There were some rumors that teams are interested in both players, but asking for a 1st or 2nd round pick, but I'd expect that Bowman is trying to negotiate something where he doesn't give up a first rounder.

Maybe there is a prospect that interests a trade partner too. I've seen it suggested and it makes sense that San Jose would be a good fit to move someone like Ceci. The Sharks blueline currently pretty awful.

Maybe Bowman will try to get a pick coming back in a deal, like take Ceci and his one year and I'll give you a first, but you have to give me a second or third in return.
