not according to "jonesy". They are hyping this kid up so much it is hysterical. - hello it's me 2050
They talk about him like he is the next Scott Stevens. All I see it a typical big lumbering guy who is an ok skater. So what if he plays mean? He will be getting turnstiled all game long.

Yep they are setting this guy up for failure. He was 6th rd pick. Leave him be and don't even mention him just yet really. He has got more internal press than Bonk!!!
Just shows how poor their drafting/development of dman has been. |

If he even becomes a regular NHL player its a great pick. I think they identified him as the "old school" type of Flyer they believe the fans still want (and except for in here, they do
) .
I also believe they are just setting him up for failure. |

Deep stuff from torts at development camp. Two points he has
1. Listen to him as he over coaches.
2. Make mistakes |

I don't know what standard you are referring to. At the time it looked like Hextall was a good drafter, and he certainly found some good players like TK and Hart. But in the end, in 5 drafts the Flyers have little to show for it. Now of course there was some bad luck with injuries, Patrick and O'Brien come to mind, or who knew Hart would be arrested for sexual abuse, or that Provorov would not reach his potential. That is why the draft is such a crap shoot and no team should rely on the draft solely to build a championship caliber team. - jd250
At the time it looked like the Flyers were doing a good job at the draft table, but it does go to show you that it does and always will take a few years to really be able to judge. You have to hope your teams scouting staff and GM get it right….they are the guys that see these players regularly…(at least that’s the hope). As far as Patrick….I don’t blame just the injuries…although a big part he never seemed to progress when he was healthy. All though I was disappointed in this years draft, again I have to hope they got it right. |

imo if he has a long ahl career it was a solid pick as you need that as well.
correct about the old school stuff. I firmly believe any employee is told to always mention that as it is in the flyers handbook.
old school, culture, hard to play against.......then they mention the talent portion. What backwards ass mentality and way to run a team. |

What jump? Who have they developed? Any picks outside the 1st rd have they turned into top end players?
Or are all the 1st rd picks on the flyers roster naturally progressing because of their skill? Now does the coaching staff get some credit, yes some. Not as much as you want to give them. When they start turning mid and late rd picks into players then get back to me. - hello it's me 2050
I thought with Hart they had a chance….but ya the player development and perhaps the scouting has been the un talked about flaw in this organization for the last decade. |

one thing that always makes me shake my head is they don't usually draft for upside after the first couple rounds. They go for low ceiling types who they think will make the nhl and a high majority do not. |

What else cracks me up is that there are a slew of articles that "Flyers sign highly touted prospect," "why Flyers fans should be excited about....."
Then you read the articles and its all "Keith Jones says".
Then you go to Dobber and other prospect sites and they say he will be a fringe 6 or 7 in the NHL if he makes it at all.
Its almost gaslighting.

Ghost definitely had a chance but they kept punishing him for playing like an offensive defenseman. Then we all know the stupid trade that Chuck made. |

Other than the mix up made it sound like he was reciting talking points. Was it Makar, or was it Heiskanen? Why would he get it mixed up? Right there it tells you there wasn't a consensus if he cant even get the basic facts straight. - MBFlyerfan
Why would he mix it up? Because he's the same senile old man thet couldnt remember Claude Girouxs name when he drafted him

I agree up until the last couple…I think they’ve picked a few smaller but very skilled guys that may pop. We’ll see. One thing they sure look like they are betting huge on next years draft. |

I also think Ghost had bad legs. And that was his whole game. Now that he has been healthy the last few years he has pretty much been the Ghost we expected for the Flyers.
I agree it was a stupid trade and all on AV and Chuck

I forgot about him….despite his exit and being written off as a good player by Fletcher and company, Ghost has really flipped the narrative. He looks healthy now and has preserved. |

ghost had to go. the deal itself was the going rate for not retaining any money. No issue there, what happened after is the huge grave error. |

Yeah, the injuries plus they completely trashed his confidence. Players like him have to push the envelope and play on a knife's edge... the Flyers basically neutered him.

The standard of a previous post that you made in trying to support Flahr as a drafter that if a player plays 200 NHL games, it was a solid pick. Apply that standard and re-compute your opinion. If you want to be consistent of course. Which you never are.
Nobody that I'm aware of is of the opinion that a championship caliber team should be built solely on the draft. Of course the best and most reliable way of building that championship core is thought the draft. You're conflating positions

I am guessing the bad knees kind of sapped his mobility, so he couldn't play that knife's edge to overcome his other deficiencies. It definitely trashed his confidence. He tried to push the envelope and his legs betrayed him.
Since the trade he has put up seasons of 51, 41, and 56 points while playing 82, 75, and 81 games. Its one of my most hated trades this franchise ever did.

Interesting to note that the Flyers PP has been dead last every season since Ghost was traded. And every PP QB they've tried since has failed miserably. |
