I went through this already with Bob Cole and Harry Neale on the CBC in recent years. Now, the last of the pillars of my "childhood" hockey experience rides off into the sunset.

TJ, I don't think Laine is the answer. We would have to jump through hoops to find a 3rd team to eat half his salary, we'd have to renumerate that team in the form of draft picks, all for the HOPE that Laine is rejuvenated and doesn't come with any mental health issues. That, to me, doesn't sound like a recipe for success under the bright lights of MSG.

I also just don't think we are going to see any more trades. I think we have our roster set for this season for the time being. Re evaluate around the TDL

It's very possible. There's no doubt he can put the puck in the net. It's everything else that comes with him. If he was dealing with mental health issues in Columbus with zero pressure, I could only imagine what MSG would do to him if he wasnt performing to expectations.

I think a team like Dallas, Florida, STL, or hell even the Devils would be a good fit for a guy like Laine. Teams where he can fly under the radar a bit and be a nice complementary piece. I have no idea if any of those teams could afford to bring on his cap hit, but just thinking out loud.

My guess is Drury will make a trade a little before the deadline.

This team has assessment/question marks to be answered-
-Chytil's health
-Kakko rebounding
-Smith's role
-bottom six layout overall with Goodrow & Wenburg gone.
-Cap space near the deadline

Once these are assessed, then it may be trade time.

No doubt, and I am certainly not one to take mental health lightly by any means. It could be anxiety, but it could also be depression, OCD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or plenty of other mental health disorders.

My point is, I think it takes a lot of mental fortitude to play in places like NYC, Toronto (or any Canadian team for that matter), or even a place like Vegas. There are places he could play where he could compete, and his mental health won't take as much of a toll IMO
