Good call, Jan. I remember that game very well. Really wanted the US to pull that one out.

I went to the Canada / Sweden semi-final in Philly a few days earlier, that went to 2OT. Another great game as well. Except for the girl who I took on a first date to the game. She absolutely loathed having to sit through a 2OT game and I refused to leave.

Needless to say, it was our last date.

Indeed, fast forward a year later I took another lady to her first ever game. COL vs NJ (Roy vs. Marty). Ended in a tie but she loved the excitement.

I just got married last month and the first conversation (one of) we had was hey maybe we’ll last even tho I’m a Ranger fan (me) and you’re an Islander fan(her). But having a girl who loves hockey is definitely a huge bonus because she gets it. The pain of losing that is and we mutually help each other through it lol
