I'm not going to lie to you - I couldn't pick Jordan Harris out of a police lineup.
But just looking at his stats, I would say that if the trade was Harris for a 2nd rounder (Columbus' 2nd rounder!), the Habs win that trade. - Atomic Wedgie
Lets be honest......you, me, most of us couldnt pick 90 - 96% of the leafs prospects out of police line up |

The Habs will have at 10.5M on the LTIR.
They need Laine cap hit to reach the max cap before the full 10.5M LTIR is used. - dmnted
In 2 years, the habs will have lots of cap to make a run at McDavid. |

They got Laine with no salary retention, though. And that's a pretty big CAP hit for a very mediocre player.
Getting a 2nd is great, though. And giving up only Harris. - GreatGigInTheSky

ITs a great deal for the habs...they had the cap space to take his whole contract.
no pressure to really perform as they arent expecting much in Montreal. - Fakepartofme
Montreal is going to run Laine out of town REAL fast.
Still a good deal/gamble for them, though. |

We are Leaf fans. We will see Laine score twice against us in the opener and that's how the poop show shall begin for us this coming season. |

If Laine doesn't work out then we won't offer him another contract in 2 years, in the meantime we also got a 2nd round pick (from a bottom feeding team) ... all this for a guy (Harris) that was a surplus LHD that we picked in the 3rd round.
Laine is definitively a gamble but the 2nd round pick is worth it IMO. |

The real issue here won't be the value and performance of the players and results of the pick involved. It will be the massive issues and distractions and injuries that MAY come with this player and how the media and fans respond. This is a guy that can score 40 goals. This is also a guy with a concussion last year among other injury issues. A guy said to be spending too much time and focus on video games. Piss poor in the locker room according to some reports. A guy who doesn't even pretend to bail defensively. A guy who doesn't get along with coaches at times. There's a reason he was on the players assistance program and I won't even begin to speculate on that..etc.
If you're not planning on making the playoffs and trying to develop a core to play the right way...this is the last guy you need on your team. From most, but not all accounts, he sets the worst example of what you want your future players to be. |

Good points ... if he becomes all that, I'm sure Marty St. Louis will send him packing.
We also have a logjam on LHD, some guy(s) needed to be traded ... that 2nd round pick for Harris is good asset management. |

lol oh I’m not predicting anything when it comes to him… 0.8PPG playing in Winnipeg and Columbus? I can see that number going up with a more offensive attempting team since he’s only 26. |

If we weren't already 4 very expensive forwards deep I'd have wanted Laine. I recognize the challenge from his personal issues, but he was a dynamic goal scorer when he cared to be. I think a larger market with an invested fan base might just resurrect his passion for the game - presuming he has his own demons under control.

I don't disagree with you but I also don't agree with you. If we can't get past the first round regularly, let alone ever getting past the 2nd round, why would Laine push us over the edge? His play style is the last thing we need. If the guys we have now can't cut it no chance Laine cuts it here but...that's just my opinion. For that price I'd have been happy if my team added him
..but I'd almost equally be as nervous. If we rip Nylander and Marner for defensive woes, this guy is on a whole other level.. |

Ownership’s willingness to spend is playing a huge roll, Columbus with a get down to minimum deal. |

I know - it's an easier risk to take when you sort of have nothing to lose. If Laine doesn't work out then the Habs maybe get another excellent draft pick - and if he does, then they take that first step towards recovering their franchise and letting their youth grow.
In Toronto they at least have established _something_ so it's really hard to take the chance - but if we didn't have JT or Marner had moved on, then I have to admit that I would have felt that this was a risk we could afford to take.
But I do understand your point - they are already forward heavy. How does Laine replacing one of our current forwards change that? I like dynamic game breaking goal scorers - what can I say? |

It's not even about being forward heavy..It's about again, adding guys that can't take it to another level, that can't grasp that throwing a hit, dropping the gloves, blocking shots, putting gloves in faces after scrums etc that if they score a goal that's all they needed to do. Imo our stars are amazing talents, but they're not playoff material, and they're all soft. Laine is all that and more. Probably worst of the bunch defensively.
Guys in our fan base are running Marner out of town.. hes twice the player Laine is. Imagine what they'd do with this weirdo who can't get his poop together.
I have a ton of issues with our core 4 forwards and what they make..but when I consider Laine an option over one of those guys if we didnt have them all.....HARD pass. Makes me love what we have. |

Yes I've had a few ...but ince again I'll say.. if there was even the slightest chance, we dropped the ball not trading marner or Nylander for Matthew tkachuk and for taking Matthews over Laine. Like why the (frank) didn't we even consider it. |
