What I like about this trade is that we also see that Hughes is really cold and rational in his decisions, unlike Bergy. He was the one who convinced Harris to come and I think he knew Harris for a long time. But he still did what was better for the team and it makes me confident that we won't have any Gallagher-type contracts in the future.

yup, it's a low risk move that doesn't deviate from his initial plan.

We had a surplus of LHD so someone had to be traded.
The return for Harris is way beyond my expectations ... the Columbus 2nd round pick alone is amazing.

As for Laine we'll have to wait and see but it's a nice gamble that costs us next to nothing.

I think those HuGo dudes know what they're doing.

to be fair, most teams in the league did not have the cap space to pull a move like that and Hughes said so himself

We now have snipers (Caufield & Laine) on our first 2 lines ... then we'll eventually get DemiGod to go with them ... this team is slowly taking shape folks!

Mission #1 this year should be to cut down drastically on Allowed Goals ... if we can do that, we'll move up in the standings.

Also, how many games did we lose in overtime the last few years ... adding some scoring should definitively help too.

He's a talented player, but I don't know if he's a guy who makes others better. Anyway, worst case scenario is that he sucks and is gone in 2 years. Doesn't hurt the cap so why not?

That's what I think also ... it's worth a try.
It will either be a genius move by HuGo or a gamble that didn't pay off.

you can have all the snipers you want, when you spend 70% of the time in your zone chasing the puck, blocking shots, taking penalties... it's difficult.
you know what I want to see. without that they're going nowhere and will draft early again.

their blue line is still very young, they need more experience yet again. They will be better in a few years.
