that may last for ever. Matheson, wifi, Hutson, Struble....
- fidopro

Well Matheson is still under contract for two years, maybe he sticks around afterwards maybe he doesn't.

The young defensemen performances will dictate what happens and if we still need him.

Matheson has 2yrs left on his contract, by that time the young guys will have gained experience and will need to play.

The right side is where they will need a vet IMO, with Savard most likely leaving by the TDL if he is not injured since this is the last year of his contract. They have Reinbacher, Mailloux getting close to the NHL, Barron is expected to take a step forward.

On the left side, you have Ghule, Hutson, Wifi and Struble...and Engstrom

this team will be super young in a couple years....it's crazy how deep the rebuild is.

He just did.

Also, at some point a guy like Guhle will be considered a veteran no?

They may extend Savard. We will see. Or they will let Ghule on the right side and he will be the ""vet"" there.

They gave him an offer so they still believe in him otherwise he would be gone. He is 22. Still very young for a defenseman. Dont forget that Savard wont be here forerver and that Ghule plays on his bad side right now
- deadpoulet

Like I said, they made room for Barron to play this year, and he has to show he can do it. Because if his game has not improved, he will be replaced with other prospects that could be ready.

Never said they should get rid of him now.

Barron is a kid
- deadpoulet

Indeed he is.

Expandable like Harris

Reinbacher and Mailloux are better and are the future. I’d rather see them in and out of the lineup.

Little less proven depth upfront, but the last draft added depth there.

I don't think Struble is a D on a great NHL team. Barron i'm also not sure, he's not offensive enough to be an PP guy and he's not that good in his zone. I think Reinbacher and Mailloux have more upside than these two.

When was the last time we had so many promising prospects?

I think people are just excited to see what these kids can do, and if someone is blocking their path to the NHL, there should be a good reason for that.

Barron has (at least) 2 guys trying to take his spot.

In my case, the impatience is not so much with Barron's progression path, but the promise of better players waiting to join the club.

If Barron puts it together. Amazing.

If not, move on.

- Mashadar

This.

If HuGo can get something decent now for Barron…do it and free up a roster spot

agree to disagree, I would keep him for now. But he will need to show progress down the road.

our blue line is still very green and it showed last season. They need to keep some vets back there
- deadpoulet

Agreed. Barron ain’t that

Like mortpoulet just said…not good enough offensively and terrible defensively.

Mailloux will knock him out of the lineup in preseason and Reinbacher will probably be sent down until Barron is either sent back to the ahl, where he wasn’t great last season or traded

I think everything is still possible depending on how players look during training camp.

Last year, Barron ended up staying despite a lackluster camp, he played well for a while then was sent down.

This year, we'd lose him on waiver so odds are he sticks around.... but as I said in the blog, if Mailloux or Reinbacher are that much better than him, make room for them and let them play.

Remember when all we had to debate was marginal 3rd line forwards of 7th defensemen we secretly wished would turn into useful players?

This is more fun.

I could also see Baron in a platoon situation with either of those two, as well, to start the season.

They kept 3 goalies for a while, Hughes doesn't like loosing assets to waivers

They need 7 defensemen and I think Barron will be one of them to start the year. Things can change.

true, but it never hurt anyone to play some AHL games, especially for young dmen.
that will give time for Barron to raise his value, and for Hughes to find the good deal.

For sure.

Trading Harris already solves part of the problem on the left side. I think Hutson will begin the season in Montreal.
