This is why I think he needs PP1 time to reach full potential and maximize his points. Him and tro were their best skaters in PO too

Lafreniere was the one player Florida had trouble handling that whole playoff round

in fact, Florida probably had their hands full with Lafreniere more than any player than faced in all of the playoffs

I mean perhaps the Conn Smythe winner gave them more trouble but Laf was great that series for sure

lol. I instantly wanted to jump to Laffy's defense. But, 5 minutes of research shows that while he had 4 points in the series against Florida (which isn't bad), McJesus had 9!!

Still, love the direction Laffy's headed, the patience and support the organization has shown with him, and the player/teammate he seems to be growing into!!!! Wouldn't want anyone else from that draft over him.

McDavid is in a class of his own. It's nuts. 982 pts in 645 games.

Close to how Mario Lemieux was when he was playing. Just outclassed everyone. in 745 games Mario had 1494pts. JUST NUTS!

Anyway. Laffy is a good player and may well be a future captain consideration if he continues this growth. That Florida series showed some leadership on the ICE.

First of all, that IS nuts!!! McDavid is insane.
Secondly, if we take that as a baseline for a minute, what does it say about what you wrote about Lemieux?
Thirdly, drink this in for a second - Gretzky hit 1000 points in just 424 games!!!!!!!!! And then got another 1000 points in his next 433 games after that!!!!!!!!

I’ve convinced myself that McDavid is the best player ever and he’d have as many pts as Wayne did back then. Simply because that era didn’t have anyone remotely as fast as McDavid is. Gretzky had 3 eyeballs and Lemieux was just a huge man you couldn’t get the puck from. Speed in that era was less important then it is now imo

wouldt surprise me at all if after this next season and upon getting an 8 yr deal that Laf gets a captain along with it. Because they’ll most definitely be moving on from Trouba by then and they’ll need one

Listened to a fun podcast with Gretzky being interviewed by Theo Von. Worth a listen.

Could definitely see this happening. The growth he had last season into the player we expected is a relief.

True generational players. Sometimes that term gets tossed around too easily.

McDavid is 27 y/o. He has a decent amount of hockey left to go.

A lot of his production relies heavily on his speed. I wonder how that will hold up into his 30s. I still think he will produce, but at the same pace? Maybe he will reinvent himself a little.

He has speed, but also quickness. Quick hands and shifty in traffic. So, I would say he is both. Also, he isn't small either. 6'1", around 200lbs. Lemieux was 6'4", around 200lbs.
My guess is he will hold up pretty well, baring any real injuries.

McDavid without his speed is like Joe Thornton with better hands and a better shot. It’s not even a good comparison because he’s that much better. McDavid without his speed is like a slow McDavid
