How is it that Carolina just resigned Jarvis using a deferred contract, in essence extending his contact length over 9 years instead of the max contract of 8 years?
Apparently, this has always existed in the current CBA yet is never used. Major
un-loophole that teams amazingly have not used up to this point. Now watch, Cap strapped teams will go crazy exploiting this, ala the Oilers to resign Mc D, Drai, Bouch and Skinner. While teams like the Canucks already have their big guns signed and are capped out. What is the max dollars that can be deferred and over what timeframe? Can the Oilers give Drai a max dollar % deal x 8 years but defer it over 16 years, to halve the Cap hit? Like WTF?

What if Draisaitl was hypothetically willing to defer $33.6 million of that contract to be paid out over the 40 years after the deal expires? That would be approximately $840,000 per year from 2033 until 2073, and yes, we’re talking a Bobby Bonilla-type contract. That would pay Draisaitl $80 million over the first eight years of the deal, hypothetically making for a cap hit in the neighborhood of $10 million per year – or a discount of $4.2 million per year of the deal.

Oil have one more year of Drai at 8 mil then it's Leafs territory vs the cap. If they don't make it back to the cup finals in 2025 and win probably won't happen after that.

Canucks I think will reach the finals by 2028.
