He actually had 22 in 57 games played.. which is worse production than what Benson put up. Why leave out his first nine games of the year where he failed to put up a pt? Could it be it does not fit your narrative?

Krebs was also 2 years older and had already played professional hockey.

Shouldnt the top one be Krebs with 22 pts and a -20

and the bottom Benson with 31pts at 18 playing all situations and having positive metrics.

Sabres blue line has potential to become dominant IF the top 4 continue to develop, including how to add some snarl and protect the net front better.

Goaltending could also become high end IF UPL and Levi continue to develop, largely by becoming far more consistent. Continued improvement from the Dmen will go a long way to helping the Goalies realize their potential.

The Forward group has improved for the bottom 6, but especially for the 4th line. 3rd line has potential, hopefully they find chemistry to be able to produce Offensively and contribute as a solid 2 Way unit.

IMO the Top 6 isn't good enough, and I'm not just talking about 2LW upgrade over Zucker.
Tage is most likely their best top 6 player, and I don't think he is elite, rather a very strong 2nd best player. They need a truly elite player on L1 to build around, and having Tage as 2nd player on L1 would go a very long way to making this team a SC contender.

Who is "that guy", and more importantly what package could the Sabres offer up to snag a truly elite player?

Not pointed at you 36, you are just the messenger, and I do appreciate you post articles.

But...
Holy F, these writers continue to throw poop at the wall. "Good secondary scoring" at 13G...yet an 18 yo in his 1st year with 11G, well he completely blows.

"22pts in 48 games for us"

I'm not going to begrudge Krebs for his 12mins a night on Vegas, playing 4th line. Same as I don't begrudge him for that usage here. It fits the narrative that he's not a line driver, as I've admitted many times, but has plenty of talent and can get it done when he's around players who can do the same.

While I do think Tage is Elite, and it's been more about supporting cast, the top6 is weak in comparison to Cup Contenders. The issue is, truly elite players rarely change hands and usually, when they do, there are NMCs/NTCs in place that force them to contenders as well. I'd say our chance of acquiring this type of player is most likely to come through the draft...a disconcerting reality seeing as we are not likely to be picking top5 overall, anytime soon, which is where players of that caliber are most frequently found.

lrebs is meh

just like 13 or 14 other skaters each night for the past 13 years

does not matter if they were 18, 22, 28, or 33

a whole lot of meh

from the owner down to the 23rd player on the team

from the gm to the last assistant head coach

from the head scout to the security guards

from duffer to ray

from terry and kim to the peanut vendor

everything about this team is meh

lets bring back the ex though for one last roll in the hay 12 years later

Ya, we can disagree on what an Elite Player is, in my book Tage hasn't achieved it yet.

As far as acquiring them, yes I acknowledge the difficulty of acquiring one outside of high in the draft there have been trades made. This is where top GM's separate themselves ...identifying them and pulling them out of their existing teams. Gotta find them.

It's different, but along the same lines... Army in St Louis successfully OS'ing 2 players ready to enter their prime. Itcan be done. I don't accept that tired excuse from ineffective GMs

Agreed that this can make the team better but Holloway or Broberg aren't ever going to be elite players either. We'd need our Tkachuk trade. Those are the hard to find ones. I totally agree that bringing in a high impact forward is a must to succeed. That's why, when I see us using valuable assets on guys like McLeod and Malenstyn, I get super pissed. I would have rather thrown in multiple 1sts, not gotten them, and picked up one player of actual substance. We're just foiling around in the weeds atm.

Hopefully Adams is fired soon, he's the poster child of those tired excuses.

I think our goaltending will be on par, but outside of that...you're 100% right and it's kind of scary.

Another rebuild come and gone, without one truly elite player coming from it.

The point wasn't the players in the OS.
Rather, OS's are blown off as an option "cause they don't happen".
Well, it happened 2X by a very good GM. Our GM has conversations.

I get it and makes sense. There are elite players (Raymond/Swayman) and some close to's (Seider/Harley/Jarvis/Perfetti/Mercer/KREBS ) that could be had. There's just 0 chance Adams does anything. As you so eloquently and correctly put it, he just has conversations.

Still think we should go after Kaliyev or even Berggren in the meantime.

Tuch is staying fwiw. He ACTUALLY wants to be here.

But yeah, the hauls weren't great. Not horrible, not good either. Kulich and Levi look like the real deal. Once they develop, we'll know the real figures, but the Eichel return does look very bad. We were never going to end up on top there unless Eichel couldn't play again after the surgery.
