I've heard too many times how hard he's tried and ultimately failed making moves

Adams should not have a year to punt. He doesn't deserve it. He could make it happen but he chooses not to

- ieetbred

Walking Joker straight to UFA deserves a lot of criticism, but it's also easy to guess how the summer played out.

Some of this is directly on KA, but some of his players just don't seem to have any demand.

That's the sting. A top 4 fixture, who you don't want to pay or offer any term to, may also have had no trade value.

Question, if Beck is a similarly low caliber, trivial player, how is the 2nd his value around the league? Sorry if I'm missing it, I may have gotten dumber after watching that debate last night.
- QuinnFan

some teams can get an upside player like Sean Durzi for that 2nd, while other teams get future waiver players like Beck Malenstyn for that pick

this trade was not much different than when we got Scott Wilson from the wings

They used 10 D last year.

They needed the depth.

- Lunaion

E.Johnson got traded
Byram was traded for
Clauge played 3 games

Between Ryjo, Gilbert, Novikov and the other young D-men. They did not need Bryson for depth.

What the heck is Roch even for if you dont use the top players from there as your depth.

I remember pounding the table when Durzi was on the trade block, but c'est la vie.

I do think Beck brings an element to the team that we didn't have. So I don't hate the idea of acquiring him, the return was just asinine as you say. For once, I think almost everyone agrees it was an overpayment. Hopefully he has a longer time here than 2 years. If that's all we get out of him it makes that price even harder to swallow.

Ah, gotcha now. I hope that's the case as well. Cole Hutson would be redundant in our system, but Artamanov looks like a real hit right now.
- QuinnFan

The guy with 0 pts in in 3 games is a real hit?

There really wasn't anyone around that pick that jumps out to me that was a need. The trade really is meaningless. We got a big fast pker for a second. So be it. Move the frank on already people.

We're going off of 3 games?

Come on guy.

He's good defensively per scouting reports and was almost at a .5ppg clip last season in Russia's highest league. He has a pretty high ceiling but also a decently high floor for a 2nd rounder. But if you don't like him, Spencer Gill was right there to be had too, the point remains the same. There were quite a few good options left on the board there and they traded the pick for a guy who will never be more than a 4th line grinder.

Revisit in February. May very well wish they had more depth. No scenario where you regret having it.

If he wasn't a sure hit(second round 50th overall) going into the draft what's changed? His ceiling is not high.

They traded the pick for a sure NHL'er where as if they make the pick its a unknown for how many years? We got a big fast pker for a second. So be it. Move the frank on already people.

I just don't care for Bryson and woud prefer Novikov or any of the others to get a look (example, Kale Clauges 3 games last year)

I do not mind the trade as I know what i get with the 2nd. Spencer Gill or Russia Artmanov or hutson did not pop off the board and still dont looking back a few months.

- DirtyDan

So the best argument to make for the trade is that one guy is an NHL hockey player and the other will take time to develop? So, is every NHLer worth a 2nd rounder? I really don't get what this means my friend. Just because one commodity is unknown does not mean it doesn't hold value. Conversely, most replacement level players like Beck are acquired for free or very little.

At the end of the day, you can be of the mind to trade the pick instead of drafting potential, but I don't see how you can justify him as the return there.

If they didn't sign Bryson, it would have been another Clague/Gilbet/Stillman/etc. Jack Rathbone is that kind of guy.

You want Novikov playing hockey, not hanging around as a 7/8. Can't/Shouldn't count on him being NHL ready.

I dont care about the trade. The value of the pick may be slightly higher than the player. Oh fvckin well. Its not some landslide trade like some people having been crying about since it happen.

I do know Beck is big, fast and can play the PK adequately from data.

I do know 80% of second round picks never play 100 games in the NHL.

I'l take the known over the unknown in this situation allll day.

I think getting the Novikovs some games where players are hurt would be fine in a pinch. They wouldn't be hanging around the 7-8 spot.... you have RyJo, Gilbert in those spots right now.

If your 7-8 typically go down that mean 2 other main stays go down and if that happens your years typically over anyways.

Why the need for 3 depth/fringe NHL dmen.

If you look back at how many D they use per season, I think you'll be surprised.

When they were using 4 different AHL d-men throughout the year?

They have 7 guys who can actually stick in the NHL. Then Gilbert (your fringe guy). Why the need for another?

AHL is your depth, use them, let them see the NHL game, get a view of them.. it is normal. Novikov who played nearly 100 game sin the KHL and another 60+ last year would be completely fine in a pinch.

I think the main issue I have is the return to the idea that this pick was only "slightly" higher than the player. I'm not sure his value is above a 5th, but as you say, oh (frank)ing well.

The rest is fair. He plays PK. 2nds aren't sure things. With him you know exactly what you're getting.

I still hate it. Not as much as giving up on Savoie for a center who can't stick handle or shoot, but it's neck and neck. Wish I could get over it. I can't. It hurts inside my friend.

We're still sitting here talking about defensive mismatch that could have been quite easily solved with basic competency by removing joker, but no. Moron at the helm.

I get us Sabres fans like making a big deal of every little thing cause boy its been along 13 years but oh franking well we didn't get prospect xyz that would be 20th in our pool right now.

I like Mcleod, We needed a defensive centerman. I think his offense has more to give than shown. Hope he proves you wrong and me right
