Have we lost Kolosov? Last I heard he's still with the team and expected to show up at camp although he wants to get another loan which PHI doesnt want to provide.

He got a new agent and according to Danny, they have heard nothing from the payer or agent about coming back. They have asked and have only met radio silence

I did see and its absolutely true. Theres also the notion that our young players ceilings are lower than they are.

Its like Drysdale. We saw him for what 24 games and hes declared a bust cuz he had one severe injury and then put himself in a bad position to start last season and caused himself to be hurt?

He has two seasons in the nhl wheres been perfectly healthy not to mention all his time in juniors.

Is he guaranteed to be the plsyer we hope he would be, of course not but the door is not even close to shut on him.

I also agree with his second point that our prospects have the benefit of having support rather than places like SJ where there just random guys playing for contracts. A lot of these guys will be around. We are going to see some guys transitioned out in the next two years.

Laughtons days are numbered
Flyers are already shopping Ristolainen
Seeler can be dealt 2 years from now
I dont expect Hathaway to finish his contract here
If Michkov has a great rookie year the flyers could potentially move Konecny to fill a need. They got till July to do so.

I haven't read anyone calling Drysdale a bust. That's hyperbole on your part. Most have said that he needs to stay healthy and produce before labeling him a #1 defenseman

Personal finance versus corporate. Hilferty gets fired if the Flyers lose money for too long because the guys at the top of Comcast only care about dollars and cents. There is no personal fulfillment whether they win or lose. Sure it’s a rounding error but corporations don’t keep writing off failing assets in perpetuity. A single owner can because it’s just a hobby for him and he has no boss.

I disagree. I don't think minor fluctuations in the yearly revenue make much of a difference. A decrease in gate receipts can be offset by not spending to the cap.

1. The big money maker for comcast is the free programming, not the 2-3 mill in play that the Flyers would lose in gate receipts if rebuilding.
2. Comcast has an appreciating asset. As of December 2023, the Philadelphia Flyers had an enterprise value of $1.65 billion

Big picture. The Flyers haven't failed for comcast, ever. I think a bigger issue for Comcast is perceived incompetence where the team is perpetually going all in and failing. Brand is more important than a few bucks, hence the media blitz going on for the last year.

I think if the Flyers brass sold a CHI style rebuild where they were upfront with the fans and listen to the fans, it would work because it would be sold as a competent and responsible thing to do rather than an oops, i did it again.

No Flyers GM, who doesn't have a Broad Street Bully Stanley Cup ring, has made it to the 5 year mark in the last 30 years. I don't see Briere being the first.

There is much fans don't understand. From my perspective, a rebuilding team with failed prospects that hasn't progressed enough, is still in a better position than a capped out team with high priced vets that has failed to contend. It is much easier to reset and start over with the former versus the latter. The former will have a higher draft pick to continue to try and rebuild. Versus the capped out team that is likely a bubble team and a non-contender. I would be far more likely to support a failed team that has the right philosophy and approach versus a failed team that keeps trying to buy their way there. People don't realize that being a mediocre, capped out team is the worst place to be in this league. People bring up Buffalo all the time. They're in a better position than the Flyers are.

Should have moved Laughton years ago. He is on the decline now
- WhiskeyMan

He isnt declining yet. He had 39 points last season. He didnt look cooked at all. He just had a bad defensive season.

Laughton is an interesting case because he’s only $3 mil on the cap and he’s going to be a guy to get players to buy in. so he’s a player that a coach wouldn’t want to just give away if there isn’t a solid return, especially the way the flyers are “building the room.”

So this is a good chance to have a guy like Poehling learn from him and help get the coaches message across to the room. Meanwhile hopefully he plays well until the end of his contract to make himself more valuable and we can trade him to a contender needing a depth rental. So I don’t hate that he’s still here for these reasons. But I’ll be very disappointed if he’s resigned.

A bad defensive season in a conservative defensive first system. Yet, the head coach kept running him out there. He has those intangibles.

Laughton and ND pass the eye test i guess, which is why the Flyers keep losing. Yet people will defend them to the death. Let's hear it for the Flyers PR team. Might as well give them the analytic team's money because they are eating the analytic team's lunch.

How is that Optimism? Two of those listed already showed they could be on the Flyers 3rd pair. Attard and Ginning played well, they are unfortunately blocked. People are high on Andrae as well. Had a decent 1st season with the Phantoms. Another season down there wont hurt him but the Flyers need to make room on the roster so he can make the jump. Keep in mind Kimmo Timonen didnt play his first full NHL season until he was 25 years old. Lots of time for Andrae to develop. He doesnt need to be in the NHL ASAP

People are also very high on Bonk however he hasnt played a game professionally yet so hes really just a shiny new toy at this point.

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

2/3 of those 4 will never ever be nhl regular dman.

attard and ginning will never get an opportunity with the flyers unless injuries. they showed so much on that 3rd pair the management you love seems to disagree with you.

I do not think much of andrae. so when he is a full time nhl player get back to me. if he ends up a 3rd pair guy that is fine.

A large part of lost revenue can be made up through a reduction in players salary. A rebuilding team can gradually become more competitive. A fanbase will support an exciting young team even if they aren't a playoff team.

The Flyers drastically overvalue intangibles, culture, building the room and all the other secondary stuff. Rather than focusing completely on skill, talent and speed. Build a winning team with elite players and the right mix of support players and all that stuff takes care of itself. The Flyers brand is basically BS and the people selling it are the hockey equivalent of used car salesman.

Where have i heard this before? Regardless, the Flyers are going to try to keep a lid on this until they know the best way to spin the outcome, whatever it may be.

How many teams besides Pitt have purposely tanked and won the cup?
If tanking is the proper method why aren't more teams trying to tank?

I will give it a few years before I pass judgement on what direction is better. Am i happy with the current state of the Flyers, no, but i see enough young talent on the team to give me hope.

- WhiskeyMan

The vast majority of the Stanley Cup winning teams were built with a core of elite draft picks from the top of the draft, whether intentional or through poor roster building. The FLA panthers were built upon that foundation.

Management doesnt disagree. One of them is blocked by Ristolainen who the past regime added. They are actively trying to move him to allow someone up

I feel like Pitt and Chicago have not only tanked but have gotten league help. I also feel like Edmonton has gotten help but can’t seem to do anything with the help they’ve received.
- roenick97

The people who don't like "tanking" tend to ignore the other parts. Drafting high alone will not save a team. Roster building and coaching and a little luck usually all play a part.

A team needs all 4 to create a perennial contender but many would prefer to deny themselves an essential ingredient just because, despite all evidence, they don't like it.

stop with the BS blocked by RR. RR has been a sunk cost from day 1 by a regime danny boy was a part of. Actively trying to move him lol. Give you fn head a shake.

They got "blocked" when the management you love re-signed Seeler and brought back EJ.

so yes they do disagree as neither would have played last season if not for the injuries.

I think a lot of teams don’t get the coach until after they get the talent. I think Joel Quinville, Darrell Sutter, Mike Sullivan and Jon Cooper came after the team was primed to win.

I’m not saying this as fact. In fact I could be wrong I feel like the new hire for a contender on the verge is the coach that gets the team over the top.

So none. And it wouldn’t just be season ticket holders where the corporation would lose money. The corporation loses money on add revenue as tv ratings decline since they own the cable station so it’s a compounded lose for company.

As much as fans want a tank it will never happen in Philadelphia. No GM selling that will get the job. They will have to find another way.

It's amazing to me how everyone doesn't see it this way. I mean there is OBJECTIVE evidence that teams that win the Cup almost always have several top 5 picks on their roster. Is that a guarantee? Of course not (see Patrick, Nolan), but like you said, it sure as hell looks like an essential ingredient to me as well.

Panther's have a different GM and a different coach than they had when they drafted in the top 5 but it does go to my point that it takes more than just drafting to reach the summit but the base had to be in place first.
