The Flyers have moved to terminate the contract. That doesn't point to having any interest in avoiding embarrassment. If Johansen doesn't have a case, why make a settlement?
- MJL

You know how things work. The league would rather a settlement be made behind closed doors versus going in front of an arbitrator.

For exactly what Friedman listed in his 32 thoughts. There is no way the guy plays 60+ games and doesn't miss a practice with a career threatening injury. And then magically gets traded and can't play anymore. I also think the league has given the Flyers the nod to move forward with this. Look RYJO is a scumbag, everyone knows it, and I think the league is going to get him.
- jd250

- i have more faith in ryjo peeps "winning" this than the flyers peeps

- here is a thought. yes, he played in all games. banged up a little sure. will players now not want to fight through the nagging injuries if the outcome of this case is favors the flyers? may set a bad precedent.

- in bold more nonsense that you and others keep spewing. very little to back this claim up.

Your statement was that Tippet has more shot attempts than just about any player in the league. You made it just minutes ago. LOL
- MJL

Yes, that's right. "just about" does not mean the most!

Fair question. I look at his speed, his shoot first mentality, of course things always assuming the player remains healthy, and his age.

He seems to have taken a significant step this past year and improved (not defensively). He not only showed flashes, but before his injury, he was on a pace that probably would’ve put him in the 35 goal range. I also base my opinion on the fact that if he slightly improves his shooting percentage and pops in say, 5 or so more PP goals, he certainly has the ability to get to 40. The true challenge is to not be a streaky scorer but be consistent. Is it a certainty? No. Do I believe he has the goods? Yes.

He had 289 shots, and a 9.7% shooting%
The year before he had 11.7% on less shots.
Hypothetically, 12% on 300 shots is 36 goals Which is not necessarily out of the question, which puts him in the ballpark. Is it easy? No. But I do believe he can get there.

- mikeyo27

It takes more than just speed and a shoot first mentality. Goal scoring wise, he's a one trick pony. Use his speed and shoot. On his own, he does not have the offensive acumen to be a 40 goal player. He doesn't score much on the cycle or around goal mouth plays. Doesn't work well off of his centerman for give and go plays. Doesn't fill holes in the offensive zone. He has a long way to go to develop his game to be that kind of player. 5 more PP goals gets him to 33.

LOL, just about is not outside of the top 10

Tippet was 14th in the league last season in shot attempts. Pasternak attempted 174 more shots than Tippet did. How close do you have to be to the top to have "just about more shot attempts than any player". How far down the list does that go? LOL

The league has obviously given the Flyers the green light to pursue termination.

Last year Tippet was 11th in the league in shots on goal, and 14th in the league in shot attempts. So its very accurate. I never stated he had the most, just that he takes more shots attempts than most players. Learn how to read and STOP embarrassing yourself!

14th in shot attempts does not sound like "more shot attempts than just about any other player in the league"

Why do you say that? I'm guessing that you know absolutely nothing about Ryjo's representatives, but you will NEVER take the Flyers side on anything! You have NEVER uttered a positive sentiment in the Flyers direction since you have been on this site. You are what is known as a HATER! Thanks!

Torts is such a convenient argument, considering a lot of people don’t even want Torts in this organization. Good to know you’re in the league though. What team you play for?

Kidding aside, why would the Aves trade for a known lazy cancer after winning a cup? Maybe the Aves should listen to as much NHL radio as you.

- roenick97
From where in the above statement did you get the idea that I am in the league? Am I missing something? The Avs traded for him because they needed a top notch center very badly at the time.

you keep mistaking negativity with reality.

- they get positive praise when warranted.

They haven't signed anyone because they don't have the cap space to. They have all but admitted that when the gain space, they will use it. This isn't a rebuild. It's a pause until they can free up some cap space. Then they'll use it and this endless process of going nowhere will continue. Fans like you though say they don't want to wait 7-10 years but don't realize that you have already been waiting for 14 years. That the more they continue with this method, the longer it will take.
- MJL
I disagree. The failure over the last 14 years has been about incompetent management. They had success prior to that 14 years using the same methods, but the end of Homer's tenure, and then Hextall and Chuckles were unmitigated disasters. Hextall fixed the cap problem and then fell asleep, and Chuckles was a blundering idiot. You can have success this way and it has been proven before. St. Louis and the Kings did it. Of course, they both succeeded due to spectacular goaltending. It pisses me off that the Flyers don't have Buium and Gauthier in their system, but what ya gonna do.

If its true that the league has given the Flyers a wink and a nod to move forward, how else can you see it?

that means nothing. the flyers had to reach a certain minimal criterion to move forward.

They met that and league said ok go. Doesn't mean it is a slam dunk they will win case by any means.

The previous 14 years was not during the salary cap era. When they had a distinct financial advantage over much of the league. Much you have not considered. The current regime, if they continue along the same path, will also fail. You keep making the flawed arguments of what team haven't been and have been successful. Only looking at the outliers and ignoring the overwhelming evidence of what approach is the most successful and it's not close.

Yup, it's all off the rush right now. His release is super slow too -- he always needs 2-3 seconds to gather the puck and skate into his shot.

He needs a lot of time and open ice to be effective.

I love the Tippett critics that give frost a pass.

meanwhile we’re here talking about who can play with frost to make him look good since he is incapable of elevating other players

Necas reportedly is having problems with Brind'amore in terms of his style of play. I wonder how Necas would do with Torts?
