It’s not that I think Cam York is bad but we took him with our first round pick and I’m still waiting to be Wowed. So I’m not all that bummed about the Flyers choice in choosing Jett, at least not yet.

I respectfully disagree - at his age he has been quietly solid which is all you can ask for from a dman coming into the league. the saying "if you don't notice him that's a good thing" really applies to this guy. not flashy, not making big mistakes and really looks like he belongs. I am hopeful how he develops as he gets older.

I have never watched the kid play, funny enough I doubt a ton of you have either. He was the 6th D taken in the draft, is that correct? But he’s a sure thing to be this top D in the NHl. How good were these other kids taken before him.

I think the reason this is happening is because Jett has a higher floor/lower ceiling.

Buim is def higher ceiling and maybe lower floor.

In our fandom, people are tired of lower ceiling candidates, and want the team to gamble more for upside.

Hence the lamentations.

EDIT: But good point, and kudos for always exercising independent judgement.

I don’t think Cam York is bad but he is one of 5 defensemen (Sanheim, Walker, Drysdale, Zamula and York himself) who couldn’t hang on tight to a spot on the PP and run this female dog. I want all the skills to translate on the ice and I want one of these guys to make a big difference, not just bend in.

I think you misunderstood. They are picked to finish 13th in the east and 26th overall. They would be drafting in the 6th spot in that scenario pending the lottery luck.

Oh ... well ... let's hope! 6th would be very good.

in the end none of it really matters. sounds like there is some tension with kurt overhardt. people would call for danny's head if he picked a player from his agency group back to back years and buium decided not to play for us. 6th dman drafted in the first round doesn't scream "franchise player" - if overhardt gave one client an out whats stopping other players from taking the same route? it's perfectly reasonable to not want to go down that path in this instance. will the flyers work with KO in the future? sure, but there's no love lost avoiding it the year after a public embarrassment.

Exactly! And I have no doubt the Flyers playing hardball with Johansen has something to do with the relationship between Briere and Overhardt. I think Briere would like nothing more than to stick it to Overhardt. And I don't blame Briere for plassing on Buium for exactly the reasons you mention. First if he was really that good he would have not been the 6th defenseman drafted, and clearly after what happened with Gauthier, Briere had to factor that into his decision whether or not to draft Buium.

Cam York was really good last season, and will only get better this season. he was definitely the right pick for the Flyers in that draft.

i never want to see the team fail but yes this would be a nice outcome to add onto our plethora of draft picks.

unrelated, but i wonder if Kolosov listened to Zamula and forced the teams hand. Za straight up said play me or I'm out and they found him a spot. there's no reason Koloso couldn't be the starter in LHV and get some NHL games if there's an injury.

i know a lot of folks think the letter doesn't matter but it's hard to overlook York being considered a leader among his peer group. so far I am happy with the pick.

trust me, I get not being "wowed" but I don't think he was pegged as anything flashy. I just hope he continues to grow is all. i think sometimes we forget how young he is, there are parts of his game where he looks like a vet.

I’m gonna openly move the goal post here, so feel free to criticize me. When I see Cam York play, I kind of shrug my shoulders and say “yeah he’s fine”. This is also how I feel about Travis Sanheim. Basically the top pair as a whole.

I've never seen him play. The consensus scouting report is that Buium has top pairing potential. The consensus scouting report on Luchanko is 2/3C.
- MJL

What was Nolan Patrick’s consensus versus Heiskanen, Makar and Pettersson? I wanted the Flyers to take Buium but the folly of that draft should do away with citing consensus from publications with no stock in the game.

He did play 84 NHL games the prior 2 years so not quite a rookie in terms of games played which does make it less impressive, not saying he didn't play solid. Also, the bar was extremely low, making him the best choice by default. Let's not confuse lack of talent on a team with being a great player. If the team had a true #1 dman, not just one who is #1 by default, York is on the second pair.

Let's see if he builds on last year.

And folks think we ruined him. I don’t agree and I wish we kept him but I get why he wanted out (I do think the pride thing played a factor). in his eyes, the grass is always greener. Until you go to Columbus lol

Torts liked him so it wasn’t that. Just imagine Provy still on this squad, chumming it up with Michkov and kolosov… oh well

If I were him I’d probably regret leaving but that’s me.

I’m not sure anyone is over valuing the captain of a WJC winner. But this year will tell us a lot I think. I’d say he’s right on track. He’s a calming presence for his age.

i believe this was luchenko's projection because that's where he played for the majority of his time with Guelph. I don't know the time table of these projections vs. what has played out but when he was forced into a larger role once Matt Poitra was drafted by the Bruins he more than exceeded expectations (again, 60 point increase) which is why I think this could be a sleeper pick.

considering his age he could very well have been a top C prospect the following year. i say this as speculation. not fact. try it sometime.

I remember when the experts said Forsberg was a reach….
