Wow! Just awful. Driver is 'suspected' to have been under the influence. Whether he was or wasn't, people drive too aggressively in an attempt to save minutes...when at best it only shaves seconds off of trip times. So either way (drunk or not), throw the book at this d-bag.

I do a lot of driving. My vehicle is monitored by GPS and I have to drive the speed limit. I get passed all the time, get the finger and dirty looks. People go outside of the lanes to pass. The result is all the time, we wind up in the same place. At the same light. They aren't getting there much faster. Just burn more gas and are far less safer.

Senseless tragedy. Hard to believe this a-hole was driving so wrecklessly to take out not just 1 bicyclist, but 2 ?
You really have to be performing some kind of crazy stunt in traffic to do that. I've seen it too many times, as I used to drive up to see my daughter going to college in NY. Sometimes we wondered how more of these accidents don't occur with the
extreme risks some drivers take just to pass a couple of cars.

The second vehicle the drunk driver wanted to pass had moved into the middle of the road to avoid hitting the cycling Gaudreas on the right shoulder of the road. The drunk driver decided to pass that vehicle on the right driving right into the cycling Gaudreaus.

In NJ I had a guy not just use the shoulder to pass - he decided to go off road onto the gravel that runs
alongside the outside of the shoulder! I mean, this is the heinous behavior of some drivers today. In my
opinion, it's an embarrassment. Just to move up a couple of cars, save a couple of seconds.

I am in shock and disbelief at this news. This will be on my mind for the rest of my life. I can not imagine the pain and suffering this drunk driver has brought to an entire family and hockey world. Prayers to his family and friends, I have not felt this way since 911, this world is in a mess. Tragic and unbelievable and sadly preventable. Sending all my condolences to everyone affected by this terrible news.

While I have never liked him as a player, this is (frank)ing tragic. I never want to read this kind of story. My house almost burned down yesterday do to homeless people. I’m pissed off right now. Punishment is not given for Justice. It is done to deter you from repeating the same mistakes or to protect society from you. There is no such thing as justice. Nothing will change what happened or make the family feel any better about what happened. Nothing is going to make things right.

LOL where do you get all that down. Who said a slap on the wrist? The guy is getting jail time. My point is the guy shouldnt get the same punishment of a worse offender. I dont know what a fair length of time in prison would be but life is clearly too much, and the suggestion he derves to be sexually assulted is beyond immature. A guy who was careless should not get the same sentence as a guy who planned on killing someone. Simply give him however years are deemed fair and he is released after with a stipulation that he cannot drive ever again. If he does, he goes back to jail.
