True. Too many people wear their car/truck like its an Iron Man suit. 99% of those finger flippers wouldn't do so or even look you in the eye if they were outside of that suit.

I was to take my cdl license test yesterday. Unfortunately the house connected to mine burned down. I could not go to the exam. I drive all day long for over 20+ years. Lots of road rage. I have never done anything that wasn’t earned. Like people cutting me off and brake checking me. I am a fast driver. I’ll admit that I do break the laws when I can. Not going to happen when I get my cdl

You asking me to “calm down bud” only enrages me. Cowards like you, have no backbone. A guy that kills 2 people deserves a 2nd chance? Nope. He chose to drink and drive. He chose to use the shoulder to pass cars and killed 2 people. He deserves everything he will get in prison.

I’m not taking personally. I have a belief system that I adhere to.

He took two lives. Fairly his life should be taken.

You are wrong, you are suggesting if you ever accidentally hit someone with you car, maybe you just didnt see them, that you should go to jail for life....... You are still at fault

I am very sorry for the Gaudreau Family. Never liked him as a player but that means nothing. He should not have died and for that I am truly sorry. Hockey isn’t everything even though we think that sometimes. Man cut down in his youth by a reckless drunken driver is inexcusable

He was drunk. Plain and simple. If I did that I know I should expect the worst. You don’t take a life.

Accidents may happen. This was obviously an accident but he used the shoulder to pass. Inexcusable

LOL where do you get all that down. Who said a slap on the wrist? The guy is getting jail time. My point is the guy shouldnt get the same punishment of a worse offender. I dont know what a fair length of time in prison would be but life is clearly too much, and the suggestion he derves to be sexually assulted is beyond immature. A guy who was careless should not get the same sentence as a guy who planned on killing someone. Simply give him however years are deemed fair and he is released after with a stipulation that he cannot drive ever again. If he does, he goes back to jail. I dont know why you are taking it so personally, calm down bud.

His actions killed two people. Took away two husbands and a Father of small children. Two sons and a brother of a sister that was supposed to be married today and have one of the happiest and joyful days of her life. Our legal system will likely let him off with less but he was allegedly driving under the influence. Life is clearly not too much.

No he's not suggesting that. He's suggesting that if you drink and drive under the influence and kill two people. You should go to jail for life. You're missing a very key element.

So your issue is with him drinking and driving? So if he isnt drunk do you think this doesnt happen? If this happens and he isnt drunk then is he deserving of life in prison and sexual assault still?

Main reason this happened is because he was trying to get around a slow vehicle, the vehicle ahead of him moved left blocking him from passing, he likely thought this was to block him as many drivers use this tactic to block drivers from getting ahead, so then he used the right shoulder and ended up hitting the two men. Chances are based on how he was driving, he hits them regardless of his alcohol level

You have no way of knowing that. Driving under the influence impairs your judgement. That is why it is illegal to do so. You're speculating instead of dealing in the facts.

One alcohol-related death occurs every 39 minutes in the U.S., according to the NHTSA. perhaps its time to make mandatory prison sentences. 14,000 people each year in the US, die by drunk drivers only death by suicide (using a gun is higher)

I hope this question doesn't get taken the wrong way - what happens in this situation to the contract? Of course it is off the books completely but I'm asking because - how much of that money goes to the family?

Of what's left on the contract? Zero I would think. I don't think money is going to be an issue.

Might want to read what he told the arresting officer...might change your tune (but perhaps not). His brother's wife is expecting in 4 months...this tragedy is just magnified more and more with every detail released. My thoughts and prayers to the entire Gaudreau family.

That person will spend the rest of their horrible days being invaded by larger men then hopefully. Stupid ass mother(frank)er.

As someone who was a habitual drunk driver in the past, DONT DRINK AND DRIVE!!!!

- BluesDroogie

Right! How many of us have driven when we shouldn't have. Probably a lot more than want to admit. We got lucky.

Each contract may be different but usually each player is insured for $1 million (they can top up more) with an additional amount for accidental death (certain stipulations, but up to $15 million). Also the surviving spouse will be entitled to the player's pension from the NHL.

Now, how that contract works if part of it is paid as bonuses vs salary, I'm not sure.

That's a good point. Signing bonus money spread out over the contract may still be owed.

I learned the hard way with a few too many dui’s. Many nights in the holding tank and too much money spent. Should have taken a cab

You keep mentioning it so clearly it means something to you. What a weird thing to say about someone that passed away. It's like you can't just give condolences but need everyone to know a useless opinion you hold.

None of this pious stuff from me rather a simple sending out of my condolences to the Gaudreau family on this tragic & very ill timed loss of life. The suddenness of this must be more than devastating.

May the drunk driver never sleep & live a long life of misery knowing he lives & others perished due to his stupidity & criminal behaviour.

Drunk drivers should be locked up for life every time. It's stupid and senseless.
- GalacticStone

I agree. Craig McTavish should be in prison right now, he only served 1 year back in 1984.
