Nice. Where are you moving?

My parents just sold their house. They are 75 and 73 but in good health still. My siblings and I told them to travel and enjoy life while they can. They were worried about inheritance and stuff but at the end of the day my siblings and I don’t care to much about that. Rather they enjoy their time together after putting us first for 50+ years.

We’re moving to Salt Spring Island which is one of the southern gulf islands right off Vancouver Island. It’s a beautiful place, very laid back but easy enough to get to Victoria of Vancouver. Our son just got married and is moving to Vancouver and our daughter is moving to Ohio and we don’t have much family here so off we go. Moving out of a place where we lived for 27 years is a bit weird but I’m excited - less excited about showing and selling process though.

Salt Spring Island is a sweet place, been through there to get between Vancouver and Victoria (former bandmates live in those spots) but I never spent much time, stopped in for a lunch at a place called Tree House Cafe, it was a good choice but I chose them since the first bar band I ever played in was called Treehouse lol. Hope you truly enjoy it, pretty much escaping a snowy winter weather there no? Your move makes sense so I hope the sale of your place goes quickly and easily for you. Even if the moving is a bit weird getting a new place to settle into always has its positives that are nice to focus on.

Cool, we ate there too. There’s supposed to be a decent music scene for a place that size. One of my son’s friends does music booking for an agency in Toronto and he said a lot of acts like playing there just because it’s a chill place.

I’m anxious just to get there and buy a place. Lots of sweet spots with great views. Thanks for the wishes on the sale

As for the music I never caught it there but I knew it happened there. As a long time musician too I always liked the vibe, I played in an all acoustic band for a bit with just a hand drummer, always liked being at places like that with that act.

Touring across a country Canada’s size is never cheap or easy. I remember doing 9 shows in 10 days all the way out to Sydney, Cape Breton and back with 5 guys and all our gear in an Astro minivan, that alone made me hide inside for a couple days once we were back home lol, I can only imagine getting that far out west that particular way would make me feel flat out crazy lol.

A friend of mine lives a little ways north of you in the same chain of islands - on Gabriola Island. He was originally from out west, had been here working for years and when it was time to retire, they bought a plot of land and built themselves a place on the Island. It had originally started as a B&B but COVID sort of derailed that plan. They seem very happy there and certainly the laid back pace agrees with him.
