another good blog by our "guest writer"

although it's pretty obvious you've become more than a guest, hopefully this isn't a shameful tactic by HB to give them an excuse to not pay you in full as a regular blogger lol...

about Barron, when you say "if he’s to be part of Montreal’s defense moving forward, we need to see him play well enough, consistently, so that sending Mailloux and Reinbacher to Laval doesn’t sound like an injustice to both players", do you honestly think he has a chance to stay above them on the habs' depth chart all season long? personally I expect at least one of them to take a serious lead in front of him, despite Barron having more NHL experience.

I know Hugo needs to feed the rascals, but the 50 bucks he would take in a month isn't worth it I would imagine.

Barron is a few years older and still has the necessary tool kit to have a career in the NHL.

While Mailloux had a good season in the AHL, he also suffers from "deer in a headlight" syndrome from time to time and has major brain farts defensively. So if Barron can be more reliable than him and play to the best of his abilities, I think he can keep his spot during the season.

Really eagher to see Reinbacher who could simply be already better than both.

Long term? I expect both of them to be better than him eventually. If he wants to stick around, he needs to change that perspective.

I think the Habs will give Barron all the opportunity to prove himself first, regardless of waiver status.

They purposely made moves to give him the opportunity to show he can improve/succeed (or eventually replaced by one of the other 3 rookies - which is your point).

Is losing Norlinder a MAJOR BLOW to the Rocket's playoff hopes? Waiting on a blog on that subject.

yeah, I had the same kind of concerns for Mailloux, but I'm thinking if he can limit those brain farts and play a bit more soundly defensively, then he'd be able to focus on his strengths and use his size to carry the puck, which would almost automatically make him more interesting than Barron who doesn't really have the same tools.

but yeah, it might still be too soon for Mailloux to take that step, and Reinbacher is surely a more complete player than him as we speak.

agreed, and this is something I like about this new management and coach, they've been great so far in terms of player development, and giving opportunities to those prospects is definitely a part of it. it's also part of good asset management, because when the time comes to trade some of them, they've already been "showcased" a bit and thus potentially have some worth.
