Him drawing out surgery stops the Flyers from sending him to the minors to save cap, buying him out to save cap or trading him to save cap. RyJo gets paid in full if he draws this out for surgery. He also does not want to go to the minors.

In the end, I do not think the Flyers have a specific plan for the cap space at the moment. I would not be surprised to see them spend it as soon as they get it though on a piece for "now".

There are other cap reasons besides that. With Michkov on board, it can also affect bonus overages the following season.

Buying him out would be colossally stupid but then again, this is the Flyers. The termination is about more than not being able to demote him to the minors or to buy him out.
