I am comfortable with McCabe at 4M. 5 seems a little risky. I know he will likely get that elsewhere, but the Leafs need to be super efficient with the rest of the roster after the big guns get their money. Maybe Benoit takes another step and essentially replaces what McCabe brings to the table for next to nothing.

Mccabe is already getting $4m now per year, its just that leafs are only paying 50%

Cover song of the week. This one was covered by many including Taj Mahal, Tom Petty and George Thorogood. Nice version by Gram Parsons and the Flying Burrito Brothers of the song originally recorded in 1963 by Dave Dudley

Initial thoughts:

I like the Boston name. I like that they've ripped off the Whalers' logo. But I keep looking for something in the negative space that isn't there.

I like the Frost. Simple.

Montreal not bad. Logo too hard for kids to draw.

Won't the Sirens have an unfair advantage over the Fleet?

Ottawa Charge - forgettable name, forgettable logo.

Toronto Sceptres. 6/10. It's like they hired someone to do the most vanilla name and logo imaginable.

From the PWHL:

"The PWHL said the sceptres “embody Toronto’s regal history and commanding presence” and reflect the Ontario capital’s nickname, the Queen City. The logo features a large sceptre with the letters “T” and “S” incorporated into the handle."

Nobody calls Toronto "The Queen City." That's Buffalo's nickname.

I don't really like the Montreal name.

McCabe turns 31 just as the new season begins - and will be signing for the years following his age 32+ birthday. Signing a deal not too dissimilar to Tanev's 6 x $4.5m wouldn't be too out of left field. The problem for me is that he's already not exceptionally mobile, but he's steady. Today he is an above average 2nd pair guy. As he ages, and I think we're really talking 1-2 years here, that effectiveness in the 3/4 spot becomes more questionable and he becomes an overpriced, but good, 5/6 guy unless he develops a bit more into more of a straight stay-at-home guy.

I think . . .like to me . . McCabe is good at a lot of things, but he's not really exceptional at anything. If one or two of the things he's okay at start to slide, it probably becomes noticeable really fast because he doesn't have anything exceptional about him to cover that up with.

I've always hated non-pluralized team names. What was it . . .the Toronto Blizzard? I hated that name. So for me I don't care about the Sirens or Sceptres whether they're boring and blah - at least they _feel_ like team names.

Victory, Charge, Fleet and Frost . . . they sound like the reindeer that called Rudolph names and didn't make the squad.

Ignoring my bias . . . at least Charge, Fleet, Frost and Sirens have a logical and easy chant for a crowd. Victory and Sceptres? The Hell are people supposed to do with that garbage? "Vive le victoire! Let them eat cake!" . . .

Sceptres is a two-syllable but awkward word. It feels like the crowd would just have a chant around Toronto instead.

If it doesn't end with an 's' it's not a sports team!

I'm not even renewing my Toronto Rock season tickets this year!

Of course that's because they are temporarily playing in Mississauga, but . . .

My wife has that now - just started when her company built up a new "campus location".

I remember when cubicle walls were five feet high and everyone had their own private area to work in peace. Then they got rid of the high walls and made it so you could see everyone, and then they grouped six to a pod and then got rid of walls and put people in working environments. It's been nothing but a progression of awful since around 1995.

I've been fortunate enough to work from home since 2016, and for many people after COVID they have had more WFH opportunities. I know some people (like Wedgie) prefer to go in the office - and I do get that - but with the hassle of travel, hassle of getting a desk and then the constant socializing, "How have you been? How's your wife? How are the kids?" Like, you don't care - just go do your job so I can do mine, too. That being said I haven't had anywhere near the productive meetings I used to have when we were all in a room looking at the same whiteboard together.

Past tense - I "preferred" to go into the office.

I wanted to return to the pre-COVID culture. Busy office, bumping into different people, creating synergies, blah blah blah.

Sadly, that's gone, and it's never coming back.

I quickly grew tired of coming in to the office, having the big meeting, and less than 50% of the people were in the boardroom. At that point, it's simply more efficient for me to be taking the meeting with Teams.

Funny aside: there's a bar next door to my office building. I've been at my current location for about 3 years now, and I just realized I've been in that bar only twice.

I feel bad for younger people - they won't get to experience office culture. But I guess they don't care - they are more interested in less commuting.
