also, free agents and players you draft/ trade for are outside the organization, no? this management team is pure entertainment.

it was a dumb comment to make. gold standard

- hello it's me 2050

it isnt he is saying he is more focused on his team. He has no control over what what players outside the organization do. He cant do anything about Cutter or Kolosov. They made choices. Maybe with Gauthier you can make the exemption and gurantee a spot but teams dont typically guarantee spots. They want to see young kids come in and earn it. Michkov is the kind of talent that you would def make an exception for. At the end of the day a team wants the freedom to send a guy like Gauthier down if he doesnt seem ready but you probably make the exception for him.

A guy like Kolosov however is definately not someone who can demand a guaranteed roster spot.

A GM has to work with what hes got. You can rely on Free Agents because you dont know if you can land certain guys. If Flyers went into this year expecting Draisaitl to be available, that is just irresponsible because you dont know and you cant build your team arround the assumption he will be. You can leave room in case he is but still have a clear path without him but you cant just have the assumption you will get what you want via FA.

The most important thing is to develop the players that are here and see where they fit in on this team and if they have a future. Briere has to gauge if guys like Frost and Farabee have more to give, what the ceilings are for Tippett, Brink and Foerster and obviously how Michkov adapts to the NHL. He could very much have a 50-60 point season and win the Calder, he could also struggle and maybe have a 30 point season. A guy like Jack Hughes had 21 points in his first season (61 games). If Michkov comes in and has an elite season off the bat that will also change Briere's plans. It is unlikely but possible.

Could see a similar timeline.

Fletcher’s mess is kind of an excuse but I get your rationing. They’ve worked in collaboration since Hextall, and they are all still here.

IMHO there isn’t actually that much of a mess left to clean up anyway. It’s the glaring lack of true talent, and poor amateur/pro talent evaluation.

It may not even be this. It seems it is more a "type" of talent they prioritize. As they mostly seem to prefer the all around, ok/good at everything player, over the high end, great at some things type player. Whatever the "Flyers type player" is.

I say mostly. I just wish they went high end skill more, as the philosophy hasn't seemed to be very successful over the past 50 years if winning a cup is your ultimate goal.

That wasnt the issue. If signing ASAP was the issue he would have immediately signed with ANH once traded. He didnt sign until the last game of the season and I highly doubt this kid is so petty and immature that hed refuse to play with a team for not signing him for the 1 game.

You're wrong. He was in the middle of an NCAA season when the Flyers traded him to Anaheim. It's painfully obvious that was the issue.

I do agree this wasn't the sole issue. But note that in 2023, when CG was eligible to sign his ELC with us, he was 19 AND would not have turned 20 between Sept 15 -Dec 31 of 2023 and so his contract would have 'slid' if he did not play at least 10 games.

But in 2024 when deciding whether to sign with ANA, he had turned 20, so there was no prospect of sliding. The contract clock of 3 years for such cases starts from the season where he is eligible to play, irrespective of how many games he actually plays (he could have signed and been a healthy scratch for all games and still have his first year burnt).

I attach a screenshot of the relevant clause from the CBA, with the critical issues highlighted.

We've been through this multiple times previously. His contract would not have slid. It would've burned off the first year of his ELC. Once an NCAA player signs, he loses his NCAA eligibility. He can't play a game or less than 10 games and return to his NCAA team. The slide rule is not for NCAA players.

He was literally in the middle of his college season when he was traded. So, uh, no.

Well, if playing in the 23-24 season was important to him, then there would never have been any question of him contemplating signing an ELC in spring of '23 though, right?

There wasn't. Gauthier was ready to sign in March of 23 when his NCAA season ended. How many times do we have to go over this with you?

For those of you who are his well-wishers. Read my statements and look at the responses.

This is beyond arguing, beyond ego and vastly different from past behavior of up until recently. This is no one's fault: it is biological not behavioral. This is beyond HB, where real lives are at stake.

Such examples now occur 5 times a day. Yes, this is personal, and uncomfortable to bring up in public. Yes, your ability to change anything might be very limited.

But this is the situation you are in, like it or not. And consider if you have the ability to even act/influence upon that 1% chance. And the consequences of simply turning a blind eye.

Seek therapy PT. I know you can't handle when you've been proven wrong. It's well documented that the CBA info you posted does not apply to NCAA players. Gauthier, if he had signed with the Flyers in March of 23, would've burned the first year of his ELC off. Even if he had played only one game.

As far as the other comment is concerned. The other poster claimed that if the Flyers not being willing to sign him in May of 23 was the reason, because he wanted to turn pro. Then he would've immediately signed with Anaheim when the Flyers traded him in Jan of 24. Not the case as he was in the middle of an NCAA season.

You've now been reduced to discussing me personally and vaguely. It's beyond pathetic. It's real life

You posted directly to me a short time ago, that you were no longer going to reply to me. Whether you reply directly to me or reference me in another post, that's replying and acknowledging me. Be a man and stand by your word instead of making some absurd response about real life.
