Why not take it further, put 2 of the top 6 on each of the first 3 lines, and keep that killer checking line together.

Podkolzin-McD-Hyman
Skinner-Drai-Lavoie
Arvidsson-Nuge-Perry
Janmark-Hanrique-Brown
Ryan

Move the 3rd wheels around to see where they fit best. Roll out the lines fairly evenly, and keep the big guns fresh for PP and OT.

If Nuge still sucks at faceoffs, put Ryan in instead of Perry, and have him take the draws.

That starts to go a bit too far into the fantasy realm. Looking at one of Lavoie, Savoie, and Podkolzin to fit into a top six role may already be asking too much, expecting more than one of them to fit in enters the realm of impossible.

I'm not so sure I agree with this. There are guys that have worked literally their entire lives to get to this point, older guys trying to workout injuries, kinks, etc....executives trying to figure out the best combinations of multi-million dollar contracts, millions and millions of resources spent on these players, managing careers, injuries, salaries, ironing out arena staff and processes they go through, etc. etc. etc.

There are so many reasons for these preseason games but people/fans these days want everything handed to them in record time or they pout and whine. Not to mention the fact that it might be the only chance for some families and young kids to get to see a live game.

I think these preseason games are quite important actually. Maybe go ask the players playing in these games if it's a waste of time...you'll get a rather abrupt answer.

People are so short-sighted and entitled these days it's kind of gross.

There are numerous cases of NHL players who say they need maybe 2 or 3 pre-season games to get into shape and that is it. Take tonight's Oilers game for example. There are some 40-50 dollar tickets which is nice for families but there are still a ton of 80-140 dollar tickets as well to watch some Oilers players play against a Calgary roster that probably has 6 recognizable names.

4-6 games gives the players plenty of time to get into game shape and focus on the players who actually have a chance at making the team. The only reason it is 8 is because the owners like money.
