Did not expect him to miss much time. 3rd year in a row this has happened. Glad he is back

Scoring a lot of goals at 5v5 can be misleading. Does not mean you are outplaying the opponent consistently. Rangers are great at taking advantage of opportunities they get but do not always control or dictate the game

I get what you are saying. I really do, but I personally don't care.
xGF and xGA can take a hike for a completed season compared to ACTUAL GF and GA. We were 7th in goals for (10th at 5v5, as per Jim) and 5th in goals against.
All that means to me is that we are good enough to be in any game. The playoffs are about heart and opportunity. Those are the areas that we truly need to improve, be it at even strength, up a man, or down a man. So, the only question is whether these guys will buckle down and get it done in the moment. And it's a fair question, given our recent playoff runs. I choose to believe in my team and cheer with positivity. It's not for everyone, but it's a lot of fun, dammit!!!

I am just pointing the last 10 cup winners have finished within the top 10 for both xGF/xGA. There is validity to that it seems based on those teams winning it all. Clearly actual goals and goals against matter but its how you got there. Are they relying to much on Igor to bail them out with bad defense? Is the offense being out possessed all game and just scoring goals with few chances? Is that really sustainable if thats the case?

Using the eye test the Rangers did not win games like the Panthers, Oilers, Stars, Tampa, and the Avs. Is their style/formula able to get them over the hump? We will see this season. Hopefully it does or they improve in certain areas. Either way its always fun to watch as you said.

People can argue about stats all they want. But this was all brought up in relation to re-signing Shesty or not. IMO, he was the best player on the ice for lots of games. We are a worse team without him. So the question is - if we did not re-sign him, will we use that extra money to improve enough in other areas? I think it’s a big question without a clear answer. Personally, I would rather keep Shesty.

The whole conversation is pointless. Shesty is not going anywhere

Well, sorry to annoy you, sir.
If you dig deeply enough it's more of a philosophy of team building/confidence in the organization discussion. I agree and would think there's less than a 1% chance Shesty doesn't re-sign, but that doesn't mean it's not a possibility that can be discussed.
If it's me in the big chair, I do whatever I can to bring the number down, but there's no way I leave the room without him signed.

Not annoyed. We pay another goalie and use the remainder of a shiny new toy to play with Mika. That’s it really. Is the drop off from Shesty to his much cheaper replacement less than the boost we would get from adding a scorer? Idk. I doubt it. Trouba is gone after this season and most of that savings is the $ that should go to paying for shestys raise.

Preaching to the choir, my friend.

I was just sincerely engaging in the discussion at hand.
