I haven't seen the clip, but is it fair to assume the question was tongue in cheek?

no , she seemed to be asking an onus question from the reporter

"In Florida's Big Bend area south of Tallahassee, from Carrabelle to the Suwannee River, forecasters expected the water to reach 15-20 feet above ground if the storm surge's peak occurred at the same time as high tide. Other areas could see anywhere from 3-15 feet of water, the hurricane center warned. Fifteen to 20 feet of water would be enough to cover a two-story house, Parkinson pointed out."

The lay of the land there is generally flat as a pancake with few levees, so that surge will travel quite far inland in some areas. Thankfully, a big part of the armpit area is sparsely populated.

Everyone's making money except the talent.

I'm glad the players are finally getting wise.

The whole idea of "amateur athletics" was just a way for the upper classes to keep the working class out of sports. It's always been a giant lie.

Hell, the original Olympics was for professional athletes.

- Atomic Wedgie

Agreed. I didn't mean the player in this case, just an overall statement about human nature and sports in general.

Pretty interesting thing going on in college football.

The QB for UNLV alleges he was promised $100K in NIL money, but hasn't received it, so he has essentially quit the team.

UNLV boosters say that they never promised him the money.

College sports are basically pro now, so expect to see a lot more of this poop.

In hockey, there's a Canadian kid who's suing to be able to play in the NCAA after having played for the CHL - his point is that hockey is treated differently from all other sports (apparently you can make money in tennis and still be NCAA-eligible).

Strange times.

- Atomic Wedgie

CHL players aren’t even really paid. They get a bit of $ for living expenses. NCAA players can get $ for endorsements, etc

Weather is gusty and rainy, but nothing worse than typical summer thunderstorms. That will begin to change in a few hours.

The cats are inside, all errands are done, and we are bunkered down. The wait continues...

That would be a weather-induced, post-birth abortion and that is strictly prohibited in Florida.

Just as I thought - it was tongue in cheek - the reporter (Rosie DiManno?) was mocking Leafs fans.

June 2014: Leafs draft Wille.

July 2014: Shanny hires Dubie as Assistant GM. Pretty sure this is when they also name him GM of Marlies.

April 2015: Leafs fire Nonis as GM.

June 2015: Keefe hired as coach of the Marlies.

June 2015: Leafs draft Mitchie, with Hunter and Dubie serving as interim co-GMs.

July 2015: Leafs hire Lou as GM, name Hunter and Dubie stay as Assistant GMs.

June 2016: Leafs draft Matthews

May 2018: Leafs name Dubie GM of the Leafs.

- Atomic Wedgie

Some reporter asked Berube if it was time to panic after two straight losses. To his credit he held it together, but it took some effort.
- shack67

She was joking around, i dont believe she meant it as a serious question.
Perhaps some sarcasm on her part

It wasn't serious at all.
Tongue and cheek...thats all.
Probably taking a little shot at how dramatic some leafs fans can be.
I guess she needs to amuse herself

People who think winning matters in the preseason are adorable. She probably knows this lol.

Same with any player who’s guaranteed to be on the roster, hence why Matthews is sitting, it’s a minor tweak he’d likely play through during the regular season but only a dumb coach would force him to play now.

Not hockey related but big new outdoor stadium (music and festival geared) of up to 50,000 people coming to Downsview Park and set to host concerts as early as June 2025.

Rogers seems to be the big player, they say in the press conference they will still do concerts at Rogers Centre so I would think the Scotiabank Arena may see less of the big name artist - or the super star ones anyway.

Interesting.
