It is true. My friend a PT. Became very close with igor and his wife (both wives are Russian) They golf regularly and play basketball together. Igor supposedly a great athlete. He wants more than Panarin money and highest paid on the team

Perhaps Nate McKinnon can give Igor a call and advise him how contracts are done if you want to win.

Think you'll get a 90-120 point per season player for less? It's like the retards that complained about Kreider's contract because he was over 30 when he signed it...said it was too much $$$. Think you can get a 40-50 goal scorer for less that $6.5M?

At the time of his signing he had the second highest contract in the league behind Mcdavid and was never in the top 5 in scoring. He had never surpassed 90 points for that matter nor ever a 30 goal scorer. So far it has worked out during the regular season, it would be nice if he led the way in the playoffs.

Lets get the facts set straight here, if it wasnt for Igor and his outstanding goaltending in the playoffs, the Rangers wouldnt have had the deep runs they had. The core of this team disappears when the games get tougher.

This core is going to start losing pieces, Trouba will be gone next season, Panarin the year after and CK20 the following season. If Mika doesnt figure it out, it doesnt bode well for us.

I would assume he'd rather make $13M/per on a middling team. I know fans want/like to believe that every single professional athlete cares most about winning a championship, but $13M AAV vs. $11M AAV amounts to an extra $16M over the life of the contract. That's a lot of money.

I don't think it comes in quite that high, but I'm going to guess it'll be $12M or so.

We know your points...Zzzzzzzz. Shesty either can or won't do his "part", financially to help NYR..IF he sticks to 13mill..that's his right. As a fan..It is always nice to see a player choose winning over an extra Mill or two. If he gets his full ask...it's not the end of the world either.

I think you're mixing up deferred compensation and front-loading contracts. Deferred comp is just starting to be utilized now (I believe Seth Jarvis is the first player ever to structure his deal that way).

Lou got dinged for adding years at the end of the Kovalchuk deal at minimal pay to keep the AAV of the contract down. That was not an uncommon practice at the time, I believe VAN got hit with something for doing that with Luongo also.

Seems to depend on how much is deferred. I'm curious if someone were to structure a contract the way Tavares' is structured (almost all bonus money, very little salary) and a player agreed to defer a lot of the bonuses until after the deal expires...if that would have major savings implications.

I haven't read a ton into it yet since it's all relatively new, so I have no idea if I'm missing the mark there or not

By countering that all contracts for successful players coming out of either an entry level contract or development contract are paid on their progress and potential for future progress. Not just their history. Panarin was paid for his success and his potential to be the top scorer on the team. Which he did become, hence proving it was a good signing.

This is how it has worked, in simple form, for a long time.

Only get it if it's a signing bonus, home games, and any other game played in FL or TX. All other games played in other cities are taxed. Yes, they get a tax break, but not as much as you'd think.

You never hear of this in any other sport...time to let that excuse go.

If I'm Drury I wouldn't give him over 11. Let him bet on himself and play this out. He hasn't been a $11M per year top goalie in the league the past two years until after the all star game, so let him prove how much he wants the extra money bags.

Either way we're screwed and it doesn't really matter what happens.
