He's living in Edmonton and apparently thinks fondly of Don Cherry, he's incarcerated enough.

Skinner had some really bad moments for the Oilers. This past year too. The last couple years he’s definitely been an issue. We need Shesty and he has us by the balls, quite frankly, and we need to suck it up and give him what he wants. The cap lifts upcoming will at least ease it a little bit (his % on the cap I mean)

I’m not as freaked by this as most, but I get it. He’s the key to us winning a cup, he just is and it’s foolish to think otherwise

I am a huge Igor fan...willing to go $12M per with him, but with that said, will handing this contract out keep prohibiting the Rangers from improving things such as 5v5 play over the next few years while the window to win is open and with the personnel they have?

Oh yeah, very dumb.

Igors quote, "I want to get paid more than Panarin"

He didnt say he wanted to get paid more than Mika or Fox, he said Panarin.

Indirectly, its Panarins fault.

a 12m cap hit over 8 years takes Igor to 38. Thats scary. Goalies only play 50-55 games. Thats some Cap hit for a guy who has been inconsistent in the regular season.

We need to sign Lafy, KK, KA-Miller and most likely replace Lindgren. Not to mention a few other roster players Rempe, Vessey, Cuylie, Jones and Rieily Smith.

It will be tough

Guess that depends on what old man Drury's plans are with Panarin (32), Krieder (33) and Trocheck (31) in the next 2 seasons. My guess is Shesty outlasts all of them.
Conceivably if poop hits the wall, Krieder and Trocheck's contracts are tradable and Panarin is not resigned. Move forward with the younger core and the prospects they have been grooming.

Agreed, but possible. Trouba and Lindgren gone...that's $12.5M in cap space = $4M annual cap increase = $16.5M available.

The big boys mentioned, Laf and Key will likely get a decent chunk of that (ADDED TO CURRENT CONTRACTS: +5.5M for Laff, + 1.5M for Key...cannot see him making more than $5M) which should eat around $7 - $8M of that balance.

Kakko will not get a big payday unless he takes over for Smith on the Zib line and produces like a madman, he's not getting more than a million raise.

That leaves about $3M but add Smith's cap hit and you have nearly $7M remaining.

Of the remaining players mentioned, only Cuyle maybe Jones get the standard $2.5M bridge deals. The others will not get raises worthy of mentioning. Vesey likely gets paid elsewhere.

Berrard, Othemann, and Gabe Perault will likely take over other spots if top-9 are available.

Resign Bread to the same $$$ (or maybe less) on a three year deal, and it's a win-win.

To some. For me, his shine wore off long, long before he left the public eye. Times change, old men often don't.

Your complaint that you beat constantly is that Mika and Panarin don't show up when it counts in the playoffs.

Igor is the best playoff goalie in the league right now and has put up some all-time stats thus far in his playoff career, so let's pick on his regular seasons. Even though the last 3 years he won the Vezina in one of the best regular seasons a goalie has ever had, got 8th place for the Vezina in a "down year" where he had a 2.48 GAA and .916 SV %, both of which were better than this past season when he finished 4th in Vezina voting.

Igor has been more than solid in the regular season and lights out in the playoffs.

I love Igor but exceeding $11 million/8 years at his age for 50+ games in the regular season and I'm out. Simply too much. Let him play up until the trading deadline to see if he changes his mind and then start taking offers.

I think this is what gets lost regarding shesterkin…

NHL goalies and as important to NHL teams as QBs are to NFL teams. By that I mean they have the most control over games than any other position in those particular sports. They simply are too vital to not pay a player x amount dollars on. You see it every year now with the jets as a perfect example. They haven’t been able to draft and develop a QB for decades and band aid it every single year and look what happens?

It’s time to pay the piper and pay the best goalie in the world (arguably) and worry about everything else when the time comes.

If they lose Shesterkin the plan B option will kill us and any chance we have to win it all. Bob makes 10 million bucks and Florida pulled it off. It’s not that difficult as long as your smart and not give money to the Engvalls (as an example) that cap strap you.

Drury just has to be smart and cost conscious. This is probably why Goodrow is gone already, being proactive looking ahead to players that will be more expensive and need that money elsewhere

Do we understand though that goalies/igor play more minutes than forwards/defensmen? 50+ games for 60 minutes per game is a lot more than 20 minutes for 82 games

Tough to fully agree here. The NFL QB IS ABSOLUTELY THE MOST IMPORTANT POSITION IN SPORTS. The NHL goalie is important, but as important as a QB?

How many teams won the Super Bowl with an average QB? How many teams won the Cup with an average goalie? You get it.

I agree to pay Igor, but the cost will keep the team where it's at for years...no forward movement.
