Not sure the Leafs would want Laughton. They want guys with a winning pedigree is my guess.

This is where I’m at. I’m excited that he’s here and looked great but there will be bumps in the road. If he struggles at times I just hope people don’t start freaking out. Patience with the guy even though he looks to be the real deal.

And if everybody's healthy it lets Sanheim move back to the left side. Liljegren's got his issues but he's extremely talented.

Liljegren played well in top-4 minutes last season on one of the top teams in the league. And the Flyers can't really count on the health of Drysdale and Risto, so adding another righty makes sense. Yes, totally agree. Michkov has all the ingredients, the vision, the balance, the skill, the attitude, but he is still only 19 years old, its going to take time to develop into the player he can be. I posted this once already, but Michkov kind of reminds me of Crosby, if w could only be that lucky. But speaking of age, I'm really concerned about Luchanko atbarely 18 years old. I know Briere and company love his complete game but in the game I watched in Boston I thought Luchanko had a hard time keeping up and fighting through a very heavy Boston team. I'm fine with up to a 9 game try-out, but then I think he needs to go back to juniors.

Michkov's game kind of reminds me of Peter Forsberg's game albeit a less physical player than Forsberg. I'll say 20 goals and 30 assists would be a good first season for him. Gonna be interesting to see how he and Luchanko handle the more physical regular season games.

He’s a smooth player but he’s not going to kill penalties, he’s not going to be on the powerplay. He’s a bit of a nothing player. That is why he hasn’t found a fit in Toronto. We do not need this guy at all.

Now if they made a corresponding move to jettison Seeler or Risto (unlikely in both cases) then would be a sound risk to take.

Same. I was telling my father that he looks like a smaller Forsberg with the way he protects the puck and his on ice vision. Less of a physical specimen but a lot of the same kind of passing skill and creativity.

Not saying he is the solution. Saying my gut feeling is he succeeds Tortorella here.

As has been pointed out before it's not who is best for the job, it's who you know that keeps you employed in the NHL and with Torts being the defacto front office already it's likely his friends get hired.

Even Chuck Fletcher never has to worry about being employed.

Briere had to agree to the status quo before he got the job as torts was already the face of the franchise and sending out letters to the season ticket holders.

Set all that aside for a minute... the trade is an overpaid 32-yo redundant underperforming bottom-six forward for a skilled mobile, puck-moving 25-yo RHD of the same cap hit.

Fit be damned, I'm making that swap, especially when I have Cates otherwise literally sitting in the pressbox opening night.

Not talking about trading a high pick or some major piece of the puzzle for the guy... we're talking about Scott (frank)ing Laughton here.
