A total white washing! I say 10-0 after 2 periods and Torts decides to forfeit the game after the second period! Am I fitting in yet?

Not yet. Flyers are the worst organization in pro sports and should have the franchise revoked. .. getting there now.

only 1 downside. interesting.
- hello it's me 2050

Regarding the forward group, yeah. That’s the big one.

I’m not talking about the defense and goaltending here. God no. Just the lines. That’s a whole other kettle of fish, and if I were to start a team from scratch, those are the areas I’d build from first. Defense and down the middle.

Look, I’m not saying everything is fixed and this is a good team. I’m just saying that top 9 has serious potential to work well together and be three deep, especially by next season. We just have to see how Sean fares after another year of wear and tear.

As for the 4th line? Meh. They’ve got a different job. I’d like to roll 4 scoring lines ala the West for the past 25 years, but hey, considering where we were, worrying about fine tuning the checking line is not so bad.

Leave me alone, debbie downer. It’s the first day of a new season, and there’s a little buzz about this offense.

Yeah, that’s right. I went there, alright.
Debbie.
Downer.

Smile, puddin’. Hockeys back.

The Flyers need more elite talent. Without that, it's not going to matter. It's that simple.

Let’s see how the draft treats us. We’d all be more comfortable with a center that the opposition needs to game-plan around. .

Let's see, is it that easy? The Flyers need a lot to get where they need to be, Far more than just a center.

You’re aware that I’m just speaking of the top 9, right?

I’m far from saying this is a good team. They’re not strong where I’d like them to be.

I’m not standing here and telling you this is a team who can make a little run. Far from it.

I’m just seeing three lines that I’m excited to roll the dice on. Superstars? Nah. Potentially 1. Can’t crown the kid yet before he’s played a game of substance. But 3 rotations lines where there’s always a possibility of a good connection. Enough talent that they’ll keep attacking. Not on the level of Dallas or anything. Lol, no. But they should put on steady pressure.

Be nice if we hit the lottery like I think the Stars did with Hartley.

I’ll admit, today has got me more pumped than others, so I’m a little more enthusiastic than usual. My Phils failed. The Eagles are rudderless. I’m not even thinking 6ers at the moment.

We got a new talent, and for the first time in many years, I’m excited to watch this hockey club. I just wanna see them play some entertaining puck.

Do the Rags have an elite center? Do the Bruins have an elite center? Does Carolina have an elite center? All contenders without having elite centers.

Would that be the part where you said "regarding the top 9"? LOL

Look, you can get giddy all you want but I'm past the point of settling for anything less. The Flyers have some good players, that's all they have and good players aren't enough. You can focus only on the top 9 and minimalize it and lower the bar all you want. Have at it. I'm not going to do that any more. There is movement towards becoming a contender and that's it. They got lucky with Michkov. Otherwise, it's still nothing but a cluster(frank).

No Couturier or Poehling at morning skate. I expect both will play, but it messed w/lines:

Michkov - Cates - Konecny
Tippett - Frost - Foerster
Farabee - Luchanko - Brink
Laughton - Deslauriers - Hathaway

York - Sanheim
Johnson - Drysdale (they switched a lot)
Zamula - Risto

Both the Rangers and the Canes have a #1 center. The Bruins had one until Bergeron retired. They didn't have one last season. We'll see how Lindholm works out for them.

No explanation as to why they weren’t in morning skate? Couturier already in mid season form?

I kind of like Deslauriers at center. I knew there had to be a role for him on this team.

They actually were in the discussion when Fletcher and Scott were in charge. Although, they arent "the worst", they havent improved themselves enough to be taken seriously or given the benefit of the doubt

Depend on what you mean by elite. Does a guy who has scored 41 and 39 goals, or 91 points count as elite? Maybe, but it certainly qualifies as a legitimate #1 center. Add in Panarin, who IS elite, Fox, and perhaps the best goalie in the league and you can see where Im going with this.

Or how about a guy who has scored 38, 37, 36 and 36 goals in the last 5 seasons? Is that considered elite. Again depends on what you say is elite.

Boston HAD an elite center for a long time. Now they are on the decline IMO as that center has not been replaced. Though maybe Lindholm is that guy now.

I really thought they'd put him on Michkov's line to make some room on the ice for him.

“Oh, they’re gonna make a ton of mistakes,” said Tortorella. “The key things with those guys there, especially Michkov, are that he’s more polished right now as an offensive guy. As I’ve said, I don’t want to turn him into a checker; I want him to score some goals for us. He’s going to make some mistakes; he’s going to cheat at certain times. We expect that.”

Torts is going to make Michkov into a responsible checker if it kills him (Michkov). He loved Drysdale's offense when he arrived as well and then a month later was complaining about him.

Pretty easy way to accommodate that

Foerster-Couturier-Konecny
Tippett-Frost-Michkov
Farabee-Luchanko-Brink
Laughton-Poehling-Hathaway

- Feanor

It’s game 1. Michkov is playing with the best player on the team in Konency and we still find a way to complain because “oh no” the most arguably talented player on the ice isn’t skating on the preferred side of the ice.

There is plenty of highlights of Michkov creating magic on the left side of the ice too. Michkov had a game winning goal on a two on one from the left side in pre season.

You make it sound like there's the entire staff has been turned over. All of Sniders trusted lieutenants are still around and they made sure that nothing changed after he died, they have guided the franchise before and after he died. All they have ever known or talked about is 1974-1975.

Comcast doesn't know or care about hockey. Under the hood the Flyers are still using vintage original parts.

Here we go again with the 1974-75 talk. It's like an organization doesn't exist if they don't win chips. Some folks are just out of touch with reality. Flyers winning pct. from 1976 to 2005 would be interesting to see. Yeah, I know they have sucked for the last decade + and no one is disputing that, but...

As dedicated to you are to the team, and I know you are just by the fact that you’ve moved in your stained, torn, and duct-taped 1970s olive green Lay-Z-Boy into the corner by your hot plate, and yet the promise of a new season feature a bright new star doesn’t tickle your balls even the slightest.

That’s sad, man. You take less time to smell the roses than Sisyphus.

He may not have always made the right decisions, but he always cared. He always took pride in the team.

Today it’s all corporate.

I don’t care if his “lieutenants” are there or not. The soul is gone. Their decisions are their own.
