Yeah, tell me about it! The 10 p.m. start means I get done with Postgame 5 for the Flyers site sometime around 1:30 a.m. and the HockeyBuzz version (which I always make a bit different than Postgame 5) around 2:15.

Tomorrow after I wake up, I'll watch the third period of Stars-Sharks game (the 8 PM EDT start time will enable me to catch the first two periods) and get up a Stars blog.

This past Saturday, I alternated between Phantoms-Hartford and Stars-Islanders streams then switched to Flyers-Flames at 10. So I did Flyers-Canucks Postgame 5 and HB wrapup, Flyers-Flames preview, Flyers PG5/HB, Phantoms HB wrap, Stars wrap and preview vs. Seattle in just over 24 hours.

Ate by the computer, took a shower and a cat nap and was otherwise writing or watching game streams/TV from Friday night (Flyers-Canucks) to Sunday night (end of Stars 2-0 win over Seattle).

Won't lie: We're a week into the season and I'm already exhausted. 10 PM games are the pits. Thankfully the Flyers don't have any more of those until the California trip right after Christmas.

Works out nicely here in San Diego! An early season treat.

Part of developing players is putting them in the best position to succeed. Johnson is a servicable defender that is good on the PK and has size. Developing players should not come at the expense of losing games. The Flyers need to ice the best lineup to win the game, and against Edmonton IMO, this is the best lineup for them. When you start putting development over winning, all you teach players to do is lose.
- jd250

I do think size is part of it, Flyers are a smaller team, you can see why DB had a concern about drafting another average size D, this lineup show cases that, but again, it should not be about this lineup, should be about the lineup in 2026, and that lineup should look drastically different.

EJ has bern mediocre at best, but he’s been better than both Drysdale and Zamula. I know they probably feel that Drysdale just needs to play and shake off the rust, but why not sit Zamula for a game and give Andrae a look? He has pp experience at every other level so he can replace him there as well.

Finally, you can split the top pair on the pk and go with:
Sanheim-Risto
York-EJ

- BiggE

I am all in to play Zam, I don't think he will be more than a 3rd pair D, need to let him play, establish himself, I assume at some point he will be traded and the position upgraded. While they seriously lack top end talent, they have numerous players that are bottom end, lower half of the lineup guys, at some point they need to trade to reshape that group, like adding some size with an edge on D.

I've missed watching the last 2 games due to the flu...can anyone tell me how Tippett has been doing? I haven't seen Bill mention him in the post-game wraps; has he been quietly effective or just slow to start things off this season?
- LatentC

TBH, I haven't noticed him a lot in the first two games. Hasn't gotten on the scoreboard at all so far.

Looking forward to catching the game tonight!

At this point in his career, is there any winger on the flyers who would benefit from couturiers style of playing?
Haven't been able to watch the games so far.

One thing Torts said yesterday about the PP was very encouraging. As you all know, I have posted many times that to me the most important thing for a PP to succeed is chemistry or continuity between the players, and that can't happen if Torts is constantly changing the units. Well Torts said yesterday that Rocky has been on his ass about keeping the units together so that is what he is going to do. Nice acknowledgement from Torts that he gets impatient and he is at least trying adjust his approach. I am also glad to hear that Rocky gets it also! This is a big step IMO.

In this game I think EJ should play over Andrae. Throwing Andrae into this game would IMO be detrimental to his development. Moving forward Shaw needs to find a way to get Andrae into the lineup, maybe platoon with Zamula or EJ once Seeler gets back into the lineup.
- jd250

Why? I thought Andrae played well enough to make the team outright. He’s had his seasoning, and looks to have improved. EJ has been just ok….no reason not to play Andrae…it was dumb to play an old EJ back to back nights when Andrae was there in Calgary.

To be fair there are missing components here....

# of teams he has been on since
+/- or if you insist his corsi

When looking at it in a bubble the points show the Flyers missed out, but would he of put those points up with the Flyers? Why can't he stay with a team, especially given his production?

Does it suck that the Flyers paid to get rid of him, sure does, but why couldn't they get value from anyone? That's kind of a big deal.

People tend to worry too much how players perform on other teams, not enough on how they perform when they are actually here.

Are we going to cry about Hayes if he puts up points with Pittsburgh?

Of course we will cry if Hayes puts up points in Pittsburgh. Because it’s Pittsburgh. Most of those points will be against the flyers.

2 things here that would make all this irrelevant -- Ghost should have never been traded by chuckles and hayes should have never been signed

NP. I am most concerned about Drysdale and Feds TBH however I am ready to let it ride for a while to see if they find their games. Tonight is going to be a tough one.

The RR trade still hurts. It would have been fine to just ride out Ghost's contract and then deal with the aftermath. Keep the picks and open cap space. Problem is, chuck was trying to contend.

Invisible mostly, except for the occasional line rush. Usual Tippett.

Exactly, so it has no barring how that player performs later.

So Puljujarvi becomes a 40 goal scorer for the Penguins, it literally has no effect on Edmonton right now.

Yes agreed, though I think the real, unstated concern from DB with Buium was his agent and college status.
