tks Hugo, good blog as usual.

I think your expectations for Matheson are too high. yes he had lots of points last season, he's a great skater... but he still finished the season at -30 or something, way way way worse than the other dmen. I think Savard was -6.
on a good team he's a 2nd pairing dman, unless you can pair him with a stud like Weber was in his prime. Guhle is not there yet.
Matheson doesn't look to be 100% though. I know he had a dayoff last week, but it's easy to see he doesn't skate as well as he usually does.

as for the forward group, yeah. patience. I'd give more icetime to the kids. our young dmen do well, why not give the same opportunity to Heineman and Kapanen?
looks like our goalies will have to save the day often again this year lol

it isn't necessarily about expectations, but rather about what we saw from him last year. you mention the -30 (which is a stat that doesn't really tell you everything) but he was playing better than this defensively.

and speaking of patience, perhaps we could wait to see how things pan out before saying that goalies will have to save the day all year, the season just started.

That is why I think they should throw them with Dach, give them more ice time.

yeah, Dach with Kapanen/Heineman has more chances of working than with Dvorak imho.

I am all for trying anything, because clearly, after the 1st line PP, nothing much is working.

And who thought we would be praising our PP as the best part of the early season so far....

oh the PP hasn't been an issue at all so far, I think the habs are currently 13th in the league overall, which is very good. thank you Goal Caufield.

yes, give more icetime to Heineman and Kapanen, but that won't make Dach better. it's easy to see he's not the player he was last year at camp. he needs less responsabilities for the time being imo.

I'd go

Caufield Suzuki Slaf
Heineman Dvorak Kapanen
Newhook Dach Armia
Anderson Evans Gallagher

in that order, with lots of icetime to the 4th line, not just 7-8 mins.
when Dach is bach to his normal self, and Laine re-enter the lineup... we'll reassess.

The troubling part with Matheson for me is he as ben turrible on the PP...if it wasnt for the kids upfront, we would be like last year

Then for Wifi I think its a difficult balance not to do too much but he needs to remember why he there !

Mistakes are one thing, but right now, he not even a physical presence

Maybe Newhook at centre with Dach on the wing could be a thing for a few games, but I would add monsieur Émile as well.

Maybe they need to manage the minutes of Matheson but thats hard to do when Wifi is barely playing. Perhaps Struble and-or Mailloux will do better.

actually, playing with Kapanen and Heineman has a strong chance of helping him out, compared to playing with Newhook and Armia who have barely showed anything.

yes, but he himself, physycally, he's not 100%. playing him with Heineman won't change anything to that.

oh I know he isn't up to game shape yet, just saying giving him better partners might help accelerate the process.

I wouldn't be againts that. I said it before, I like the Evans line, but I would prefer them to be the 4th line. so fine with me, but switch Gally and Kapanen.

I think Gallagher is more effective now with reduced minutes + some PP time.

Not sure I want to see him in the 15+ minute range.

yup, and besides that line with Evans and Anderson is doing well.

I guess Gally could be used as a sparkplug on a very temporary basis.
