Kampf is overpaid and is also where offense goes to die. He also provides value on that 4th line - which is the most effective 4th line we've seen in literally decades. Why would anyone change anything about it? Kampf works really well with a guy like Lorentz.

Re: Tampa

Losing Sergachev and getting McDonagh back is a wash for now. They will miss Sergachev in another season or two when McDonagh begins to decline. Big Mac is still a warrior and he's been solid so far. Moser has been good. Not sure where he would fit in, but he seems like a legit top-4 so far. The Lightning's defense is definitely not as good as it was, but that doesn't give Vasi a pass.

I've been saying it for a while now and Tampa fans don't like admitting it, but Tampa is in their Pittsburgh phase now. They still have enough elite talent to win games and usually qualify for the playoffs, but they lack the key pieces and depth that make for a true contender roster.

Back to the Leafs : I like the early returns on Berube so far. This team is playing with a spine and starting on time. Leafiness has been at a minimum. Almost everyone is doing their job. No complaints. Stoalie the Goalie has been a revelation so far. I hope he steals the Vezina and starter job - no offense to Glass Woll.

If they find they are under a cap crunch or there's something clearly better, obviously you do it - but we don't have anything in-house that replaces Kampf's defensive acumen. I mean they are deploying him less and he has 4 minutes less on the PK than Holmberg, but he has yet to be scored on while on the PK.

My concern with Holmberg is that he by far the worst forward at shot suppression, scoring chances against - and subsequently expected goals against while on the PK.

Holmberg isn't a solid Kampf replacement - at least not yet. Not saying he is, there is a path for it though.

My point is Kampf is paid to do what Holmberg is doing but Berube is choosing Holmberg over Kampf.

If Holmberg doesn't take the job completely we know Tre will do double retention for guys at the TDL...there will be options.

Gourde would be excellent, double retained he is 1.25M.

Just with Dewar coming back and Jarnkrok at cheaper cap hits I see his ice time going down even more.

It's already happened that lawyers have cited legal precedents before the court based on AI doing its own research, which the humans didn't check. Turns out none of the cases were real, AI just made them up. But I think now if you give ChatGPT a legal research question it tells you to get a lawyer.
