Andrae is the reason that the Flyers didn't draft Buium. What an embarrassing statement that was by DB. Sometimes it's best not to say anything.

According to our fearless GM he is. I believe that the quote was that they already had enough small defensmen. He named Andrae and Drysdale I believe. Drysdale still hasn't proven that he is an everyday NHL defenseman (to me) and Andrae can't make the team despite it's weaknesses on defense. It's a bad look.

What has frost shown that makes you think he is the best option??
- SlNlSTER

Well, he led the team in points the latter 2/3 of 2022-23. He led the team in assists the final 46 games of last season and was two points off the team point lead.

They don't have much depth at center last I checked. So, yes, he is the best option. He's their best playmaking center.

i guess we're already showcasing players for the TDL by putting Poehling at 1C?

could be, i chalked that up to GM speak. I was thinking its because he is a college player and i think the same agent as cutter, he just wanted to stay away from that. But he could be thinking size also. But already enough small dman, could mean drysdale and york and not necessarly andrae.....this whole team is a trainwreck, At least we maxed out the cap and have a basement team....thats hard to do

As a Torts favorite that was extended this year, he's got a better shot at remaining a Flyer than Michkov. Can't put a price on that 200 ft play.

Honestly, any other reason other than they didn't think he could become a #1 dman is total bull. This is supposed to be a professional sports team. If he has the potential to be an impossible to find missing cornerstone piece, you make it work. Until you find that player, you keep trying to find that player. You don't say this is to hard and ignore it.

GM speak or not, he's on the record as listing Andrae as a reason why they didn't pick him. It's unfair to Andrae as he didn't ask for any of it but Briere put him in the spotlight.

Briere: "Well, when you look at our defense, you have it right. I think Zeev Buium is gonna be a great player, and he's someone we considered strongly. But with Cam York, Jamie Drysdale, Emil Andrae – at some point, it gets tough to go with the smaller guy. But he’s a fantastic player."

Laughton needs to be with his teammates. Be a man! If the kid hasn't been born yet before puck drop, yell really loud at the baby momma's stomach and set the standard to make the kid listen and come out when there is no game day.

It's not that hard.

Briere is learning on the job and making mistakes. He wasn’t ready for the GM position and the Flyers got suckered into giving it to him after Montreal interviewed him twice. Briere’s agent set up the Flyers beautifully.

It makes no sense for the short at center Flyers to have a healthy Jett watching the game. They just had 2 days off. Having Jett watch Poehling play #1 center makes about as much sense as having a healthy Andrae forced to sit and watch EJ instead of playing hockey for a week.

I just don't understand his usage.

- Flyers_01

There two reasons for this.

1) They are managing Luchenko's load much like Leo Carlsson last season. He is sitting because of the B2B. He most likely plays tomorrow

2) Torts scratching Lucenko allows him to keep him around longer. Essentially delaying the decision to send him down. Torts wants his shiney new toy as long as possible.

If they passed on Buium because of who his agent is, which I don't think is the reason. That is complete incompetence and a fireable offense in my opinion.

Leo Carlson was a plan set in stone going into the season, and meant to manage an entire season. This is torts just winging it

i would love to see the reaction if Chucky was the one that said this. Fans would be waiting for pitchforks outside the Wells Fargo. It was a dumb comment and he should have just not said anything. And as you said - if this is why they passed on Zeev it is truly incompetent.

Id take that with a grain of salt. Part of Briere's job is PR. There is likely some truth to it but I dont believe it was the major reason for the choice. In fairness to Andrae he played well enough that he should have made the team.

I frankly was more concerned when he compared the team to St. Louis in building a cup winner which essentially means, get luckly.

How is he winging it? Every game Luchenko has sat so far has been part of a back to back.

He probably sits one of next weeks games too. They dont play for over a week though so maybe they let him play.

chuckles would have said the draft app told him jl was the better pick - a kid named Jett was born to be a Flyer

If the comment Briere made was PR, he should leave that to Jones. It made Briere look stupid. Especially when they refuse to play Andrae at the NHL level. Andrae is so good that they passed on a potential 1D defenseman but not good enough to make the team. It's comical.

Torts last season will be next year. They will move off of someone. Unless you believe in conspiracy theories that the Flyers are trying to make Coots demand a trade by jerking him around which I dont think is true. If that was the cas eI would think Couturier would be scratched for the home openener as it was his 800th game. Instead Torts started him and the 4th line.

It is most likely is guys arent playing to his standards so as punishment they play lower in the lineup. Frost who was often in Torts doghouse last season has been used as top line C up till now so I dont believe the narrative that Torts hates certain players. He holds better players to higher standards.

There havent been many players who have impressed so far. The only player you can say is playing great is Ersson

Same pattern wherever he goes... over time his teams get grindier and grindier, and less talented overall.
