Keefey Leafs would cruise into the Columbus game riding high on last night's win, start late, fall behind early and chase a loss.

Berubey Leafs see that the blueprint works, buy into the system of accountability, and stomp a mudhole in the Poonless Jackets.

Lightning who? Leafs are the next beast of the east.

Remember the Berube timeout to yell at them when they were up 5-2? I don’t see it.

Yes Habs fans never whine, & are the most reasonable and rationale group of fans in the entire league, how could I have forgotten that?

The link I posted seemed to not work but it was to a story about Habs fans flooding the 911 call centre demanding Chara be arrested for attempted murder on Patches when he was hit into the glass a few years ago. Totally rational response. lol

(Keep running Forest!!!!!!! *I mean that in the most loving way Scabby*)

Is it wrong that I agreed with the Habs fans on that one?

There have been several incidents in the NHL over the years where play on the ice is deemed to be not just a hockey play, and that charges should result.

Todd Bertuzzi

Marty McSorley

Dino Ciccarelli

Bottom line: you can't do something so far beyond a hockey play, and expect immunity because it occurred in a hockey game.

OR at least you shouldn't be able to.

Chara pushing Patches' head into the glass was (IMHO) one of those times.

I care that OEL was fined.

I tried to explain why in the prior blog.

I believe the Leafs are treated differently than some other teams by the NHL DOPS and one 'fact' with respect to the # of fines teams got in one season will not change my opinion.

The Leafs being more harshly treated by the DOPS has been a trend since 2016/2017 when oddly enough George Paros joined and then became the head of the DOPS.

Found this article from this Feb which has lots of facts about how often the Leafs are penalized in relation to other teams, how often they have DOPS hearings and suspension etc.

https://thehockeywriters....ng%20non%2Dhockey%20plays.

For a team near the bottom of the league in # of penalties taken it sure seems odd that they have so many suspensions no?

The key points from the article (which was about Rielly's suspension and that he would appeal from the empty neck slapshot by the Ottawa Loser) for me were these:

- Since the start of the 2017-18 season, the Maple Leafs are actually 29th most penalized team with 3,838 penalty minutes over those six and a half seasons. They are 30th when it comes to penalty minutes per game (with 7:34) and have the 27th most minors (1,506) over that span.

- Major penalties, they have just 79 which is sixth fewest in the NHL over that span with one match penalty, 20 misconducts and four game misconducts — all within the lower third of the league since the start of 2017.

- Counter that with the numbers that’ve come down from Parros and the DoPS. No team has had a player suspended more times than the Maple Leafs over that span — leading the way with 10 suspensions between the regular season and playoffs. Three of those were in-person hearings, another category in which the Maple Leafs are tops in the league since 2017.

- They are the only team to have three or more suspensions of five games or more and while they don’t lead the way in overall games, they do come second in that category to the Washington Capitals — thanks to Tom Wilson.

So in conclusion I will continue to believe the DOPS treats the Leafs differently and fines, demands in person hearings and suspends Leafs players disproportionately compared to the rest of the league.

I agree with all of this. Dozzer is just Dozzing.

How does that explain why you guys keep whining about the refs despite being one of the least penalized teams though?

*runs*

- Scabeh

Easy explanation. Every game so far this year except one, the opposing team has had more power plays than Toronto. There is some facts for Dozzer. The refs seem to put the whistle away for the opposing team. So when teams play Toronto they don't actually take their "normal" amount of penalties. 10 penalties should have been called, but they only call 4 or 5. So when the leafs take 6 or 7 it is unbalanced within that particular game. But overall the leafs take less penalties than the average because during non-leaf games, refs seem to make the normal calls on both sides.

I don't know what the reason is, but it does seem that Toronto(biggest and most visible market) gets treated a little different from the rest of the league. On, and Parros is a complete f'n moron that hasn't let go of past prejudices.

Completely agree.
But i believe that occurs once everyone is healthy and have played a few games.
Jarnie or kampf may be the odd man out.
We'll see.

They just don't push the needle for me in any way. Hope let go more of the past that hasn't worked and go fresh giving newer dudes a shot. If the Leafs could get rid of 2 of 3 of Lilly, Kampf, Jamrock that's near 5 million cap space which they desperately need for future flexibility and current ltir dudes. Lose all 3 and that could set up a sweet deadline move.
