Yeah it was 25% in 11 games before last year.

You aren’t winning a cup watering down your PP. You dig deep and figure out how to make it work.

Once again there’s a new coach who leans heavily on physical play.

There top PP are 5 guys who don’t play physical. I don’t think it should be a huge change but something like flipping Knies and JT could make a very nice difference.

Berube isn’t even in charge of the PP.

He can influence it sure but they are paying an assistant coach a lot of money to run it.

And being physical isn’t a PP thing, and berube doesn’t mean hits. It’s hard on pucks, gaining body position.

From his comments and from what I’ve seen I would bet you Robertson has been his favourite player so far. That’s the physicality he wants.

He has the same build as his brother, he’s over 200 pounds…

For the Marlies so far he has been physically hard on pucks. Which is what berube means by being physical.

I haven’t watched him previously other than pre season and these 5 Marlies games. But I’ve seen commitment, I’ve seen his talent.

I think he could be very successful under berube. I just don’t know when he will get his chance, there’s a lot of forwards.

- Santo_44

He’s nothing like his brother skill wise tho. He’s only played one season over 50 games and that was in Chicago 5 years ago.

If he wants to be a NHL regular he needs to develop a strong 2 way game or he’ll only be making bottom end teams.

Umm we know whats been up with the team for 8 years.
Its the core.

But its still early, lets see how they do in the playoffs. Could be a long season.

I know this, but that’s precisely what they don’t do. They either dominate talent wise or suck. It’s becoming very very proven too.

My hope right now is that the core just hasn’t grasped Berube’s game.

As for the PP I know it’s Savard but if you think he gets the okay to do anything without Berube’s ok with it you’re fooling yourself.

Glad we are 6 months away from the playoffs.
They can afford to change up the pp.
Once playoffs start they can go back to being 4% in pp%.
In 2021/22 they had s 14% pp in playoffs
13% the year prior.
So its been bad longer than its been good.

He doesn’t have the skill that you’re claiming, he’s about 0.333PPG. He’s no top six guy meaning without a defensive skill he will never play for a contender.

This is a development year for him anyways, this is Toronto not Columbus, if he had even a 1% chance of making this team he’d be making $775K even as a Marlie.

Please understand I agree with you, does he have the skill? Yes. Is he using it well enough to make the role that would be available to him on a playoff bound team? No. Not yet at least.

Before the last 130 PPs this PP has been mostly lethal since the start. I do think it gets back to there but we need to be patient.

And yeah Berube wants shots and scoring from the dirty areas. Its up to Savard to figure out how to do it.

Just like this team is built by Treliving, but its Berube's job to get them to play like it.

I really don't care about his seasons in Chicago or Buffalo. It is irrelevant to me. Just like how it is irrelevant that Bobby McMann was in the ECHL 3 seasons ago and AHL last year at 27 years old.

I don't really agree that its a "development" year. He didn't make the team and that was not surprising to him. There has been nothing decided on him by anyone.

From what I have seen from him in 5 games he is well on his way to force the Leafs hand and give him a contract.

Nice so you agree.

If they want a deep run they need their top PP clicking, like every other successful playoff run. The one time they did get past the 1st round it was 25%.

And nah I disagree. Don't see the point in splitting up the PP for the novelty effect. You figure out this top PP, now.

I mixed some dill pickle reaper hot sauce I made into sour cream and used it as a dip. I felt that was a good selection. Then just now I went to take a crunch and flames shot out of my anus.

From the last blog:

I remember seeing an article a few years ago where they looked at all the contenders over the last bit and pretty much all of them have complete stinkers, just fewer than the next tier of teams (and so on).

I think if they did this all the time, well, it would be rebuild time more than likely, but they don't: they haven't put up back to back woofers like this since 2014-15, and pretty pretty sure that was an abysmal team.

Why are people so f’n obsessed with offence? The last GM was and built a team that sucked ass in the post season. That same GM can’t even get Crosby’s team in the post season.

Offence is not that important when you already have what the leafs have. Unless his own brother gets hurt leave him down in the AHL.

Edit: sorry if I sounded insulting Santo, wasn’t meant to sound that way but I’m a terrible writer lol. Just think of me as the guy who’s a couple beers in and sitting around the fire pit with you

I agree the pp needs a new look, yes and its the reg season so now is the time to try the changes.
And its not for novelty, its to try and get something working.
Switch a player or two up. Its no biggie. Berube eventually will.

Marner has been a huge part in the PK.

Ffs it shouldn’t be difficult for them to figure out the PP with him.

I’d put him on the 2nd PP unit with Mo. But I wonder if they are afraid to upset him in his contract year.

- Santo_44

Marner has been a huge part of a not so good PK. Like being the lead scorer in San Jose, it's not necessarily a feather in your cap.

Sure if it’s knies in for someone and they see it as a long term solution.

But no, splitting up the PP for novelty is stupid.

It just kicks the can down the road, figure it out now.

Its not novelty, its because its not working.
Send marner or willie to the 2nd line with JT.
It doesn't kick any can if they figure it out sooner than later.
Youre assuming the pp can only work one way with certain players.
