We have No elite in our prospect pool and hope they fit what Ruff wants.
- Buff36

Elite prospects are in the NHL almost immediately upon being drafted, and rarely spend anytime in the AHL. If you need time in the AHL then you're not considered elite, rather you are considered a developing prospect.

Elite prospect, not an elite NHl player. He'll probably end up being a good NHL player and not an Elite NHL player (those are usually the 1OA picks, please convey this to Dahlin and Power).

While I agree with the statement, we shouldn't forget that tons of players, who didn't make the jump at 18yo, go on to become elite NHLers. Our scoring leader last year, Kucherov, played for the Syracuse Crunch. Panarin played in St Petersburg, he was 4th in scoring last year. Rantanen played for San Antonio, Forsberg for Milwaukee, Point for the Crunch, Draisaitl for Bakersfield, JT MIller for Hartford. All of these guys were top25 in scoring last season.

And again, this isn't to disagree with your statement, but simply to add the caveat that playing AHL games doesn't mean you won't be an elite player.

I agree, my point was relative to if a team views a prospect as elite, then they feel you are NHL caliber player (this does not mean great NHL caliber, just that they are too good to be in AHL). As you stated that a developing prospect can spend time in the AHL and develop into an elite NHL player.

Ostlund could develop into a better NHL player than Benson.

Jody Gage was an elite AHL player, guess that means he was an elite NHL player, since "Elite is Elite"

I'd be surprised, but stranger things have definitely happened. Have you watched any Rochester games this year? I have only caught two sadly. Ostlund looked good, just not strong enough.

But I'm on team Wahlberg right now. Think that kid could become a real bull.

There will be no Jason Robertson for the Buffalo Sabres, we either get Marcus Davidsson or trade the pick for a Beck Malenstyn.

Have not seen any Amerks games, but I did watch most of the preseason games with the AHL roster. Came away with Ostlund and Helenius as being our best chances of developing into high skill top 6 players (but odds are not great). I was a little disappointed in Wahlberg but he's probably the next best shot we have at forward. I'm concerned that Rosen being another Asplund.

By the way, this could end up being a down year for Quinn but I think at the end of the season you sign him for some term at a reasonable cost (gamble). It's would be a horrible time to trade him.

Yeah, just not sure if it was anything more than random luck and not to expect it to happen again for another 15 years. I just don't have a lot of confidence in this org scouting department based on the last ten years or so. I know different GMs and front office personnel, but results often appear similar. Can we even expect a 2nd rd pick like Peterka once every 5 years or is that to optimistic?

2014 2nd Rd, pick 31: Brendan Lemieux
2016 2nd Rd, pick 33: Rasmus Asplund
2017 2nd Rd, pick 37: Marcus Davidsson
2018 2nd Rd, pick 32: Mattias Samuelsson
2020 2nd Rd, pick 34: JJ Peterka
2021 2nd Rd, pick 33: Prokhor Poltapov

Do they pick Peterka without Ralph Krueger involved? Probably not.
