Yes because stating that the Flyers are trading a pick + Risto means SJ wants Risto. Perhaps you should learn to read before commenting.

unless you're giving up a 1st he won't be moved. why can't you figure this out or accept it.

perhaps you should stop commenting as you are delusional.

Im not confusing anything. Im simply stating if the team wanted to make space they could. They clearly dont want to. A team like SJ would easily take an asset and take Risto. They literally did that with Edmonton takin Ceci.

Arent you the one stating all the time this isnt a rebuild? The fact that you say they want to dip into Free Agency would mean they are looking for a win now move, no?

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Yes, you are. You're saying sure they could gut the team to create space and then have cap space for free agency. Well what's the point then? It's swimming against the current. A team is only going to take on so many cap dumps. They had to want to take Ceci. If the Flyers can do that to move Ristolainen. What are they waiting for? You live in fantasy land.

Your last statement doesn't make any sense.

Where are they getting the top pair RH defenseman from?
- MJL

I think they will options that can support a top pair left handed defenseman. Not everyone on a defense pair has to be a stud. There is something to be said for chemistry. Who was Doughty’s partner during their cup runs?

Stanley Cup winning teams typically have 3 elite players and good depth after them. By elite I mean top 5 at their position in any given year in their prime. The majority of teams don’t have that. I believe the Flyers have one in Michkov. Is Zavragin another? He has put up numbers saying he might be but can’t be sure with goalies. But if so that means they need to draft one more.

I don’t think it’s being to much of a koolaid drinker to say Luchanko, Bonk, the rest of the prospects plus what’s on the roster now can be cobbled together provide good depth from the middle on down.

- psuhockey

By saying top 5 at their position, you're narrowing the scope.

Florida for example had 5 elite level players and that's not counting Verhaeghe, Bennett and Foersling. Whom are also outstanding level players. Plus a future hall of Fame goaltender. The Flyers have a long way to go

Everything makes sense. You have a reading comprehension issue.

1) The Flyers are not going to do anything I suggest because that is not in the plan. Nor am I suggesting that. I am not suggesting they do it either.

2) The cap dump is simply to prove they COULD do it. The whole point is the Flyers of OLD WOULD do this. You keep saying the Flyers want to Dip into FA like OLD FLYERS were. OLD Flyers wouldnt hesitate to send a 1st and Risto to create space for a UFA splash

I dont know what is so hard to understand, you are taking a hypothetical scenario based on old Flyers process and applying it like Im suggesting it makes sense for the Flyers now to do so which isnt true.

My entire point is that the Flyers are not operating like the old Flyers.

How? Look at Vegas. What stars did they have? Eichel and Pietroangelo. Everyone else was good players. Those two player above are what the Flyers need.

The majority of the roster were 50-60 point guys

If you dont think the Flyers have guys equivalent to William Karlsson, Marchessault, Stephenson, Roy, Kessel(Declined version) and Reily Smith, you are the one who is delusional.

What are they missing? An Eichel and Pietrangelo and maybe a Shea Theodore but the hope is Drysdale can be that. Michkov may not be as defensively sound as Mark Stone but he is likely going to be better than peak Mark Stone offensively.

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Theodore at the time was a top 20 NHL defenseman and Stone is one of the top 2 way wingers in the NHL. His health is the only reason he is not considered elite. Currently leading the NHL in scoring I believe.
I'm not going to hold my breath that Drysdale gets to the level of Shea Theodore.

What on Earth did Morgan Frost do to be dumped on a line with Deslauriers and Hathaway last game? Glad to see he is back at 2C in this game. I just wish good or bad, Torts just leaves him there. Happy to see Brink back in tonight also.

You have a common sense issue

1) The Flyers are not going to do anything I suggest because that is not in the plan. Nor am I suggesting that. I am not suggesting they do it either.

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

You're not making any sense. It's a hypothetical discussion

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Any team COULD do it so therefore, there is no such thing as a team having a cap issue. It has to make sense. It is in the context of attempting to build a contending team. If you have to gut your depth to make the cap space, what is the point?
There was no salary cap during the OLD era

I dont know what is so hard to understand, you are taking a hypothetical scenario based on old Flyers process and applying it like Im suggesting it makes sense for the Flyers now to do so which isnt true.

My entire point is that the Flyers are not operating like the old Flyers.

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

That is your invention. That's the entire point. It doesn't make sense and you live in fantasy land. You're going to find out relatively soon that they are going to start acting like the old Flyers. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

I said add a pick because I didnt think everyone needed to be spoon fed the fact that it would be a 1st. Apparently not all readers can make that connection, my bad

I'm fine with blaming EVERYONE who deserves it, not cherry pick the ones that hurt my fantasy feelings.

Let's not forget the main culprit in ALL of this...the coaching staff.

As for your list....Has Coots really been ok/good? I missed his hat trick game, but I don't believe he was given any chance to be ok/good until that game.

TK? I guess if you go to leading scorers on the team, but he has made a lot of mistakes so far this year.

Sanheim/York? Like I said earlier looking through all the goals given up they have been on the bad side of things being out of position.

Michkov? Obviously he has had his moments, but he also gets slack because he is young, but mistakes have been made.

Ersson? Sure seems like a bright spot on the team, but does he look good because everyone else looks so bad or has he really been good?

- Glak18

To me all of the players I listed have met expectations. The rest of the team has not.

Honestly, Michkov has been the only player to exceed expectations.

Who else is on that list a young Barbara Walters?

Terri Garr should be a hottie to most people with eyes.

- psuhockey

Did you read my post? I said you've narrowed the scope of elite players by applying that they had to be in the top 5 at their position. I disagree with that. Let's just simply look at the center position in the NHL.

McKinnon
McDavid
Matthews
Draisaitl
Crosby
Miller
Point
Aho
Pettersson
Barkov

Just to name a few. Now tell me who your top 5 is. Then I guess whomever is left out is not elite. After we deal with that then we can have an accurate look at the talent level on Florida from last season.

Thought it would be interesting to see, IMO, who every team's best defensemen were:

Anaheim - Fowler (12th), Mintyukov (10th)
Boston - McAvoy (14th), Lindholm (6th)
Buffalo - Dahlin (1st), Power (1st)
Calgary - Andersson (2/53th), Weegar (7th/206th)
Carolina - Slavin (4th/120th), Burns (20th)
Chicago - Jones (4th), Vlasic (2nd/43th)
Colorado - Makar (4th), Towes (4th/108th)
Columbus - Werenski (8th), Provorov (7th)
Dallas - Heiskanen (3rd), Harley (18th)
Detroit - Seider (6th), Edvinsson (6th)
Edmonton - Bouchard (10th), Ekholm (4th/102th)
Florida - Ekblad (1st), Forsling (5th/126th)
Los Angeles - Doughty (2nd), Anderson (4th/103th)
Minnesota - Brodin (10th), Faber (2nd/45th)
Montreal - Matheson (23rd), Hutson (2nd/62th)
Nashville - Josi (2nd/38th), Skjei (28th)
New Jersey - Hamilton (9th), Siegenthaler (2nd/57th)
NY Islanders - Dobson (12th), Pelech (3rd/65th)
NY Rangers - Fox (3/66th), Lindren (2nd/49th)
Ottawa - Sanderson (5th), Chabot (18th)
FLYERS - Sanheim (17th), York (14th)
Pittsburgh - Letang (3/62th), Karlsson (15th)
San Jose - Walman (3/82th), Ceci (15th)
Seattle - Dunn (2/56th), Montour (2/55th)
St. Louis - Parayko (3/86th), Faulk (2/37th)
Tampa - Hedman (2nd), Moser (2/60th)
Toronto - Rielly (5th), McCabe (2/44th)
Utah - Sergachev (9th), Durzi (2/52th)
Vancouver - Hughes (7th), Hronek (2/53rd)
Vegas - Pietrangelo (4th), Theodore (26th)
Washington - Carlson (27th), Chychrun (16th)
Winnipeg - Morrissey (13th), Pionk (Undrafted)

5 defensemen who were considered ELITE ("Generational") at the time of the draft, not what they did after getting drafted. Dahlin, Power, Ekblad, Doughty, Hedman.

The rest of the teams are all over the map from top defensemen in the draft to top 4 potential to swings in the middle rounds to 7th round/undrafted.

Is it possible for the Flyers to draft a top pairing defenseman that isn't a generational talent....yes, much higher chance at that.

Draft that 1C and keep drafting those defensemen to develop or trade for one that has established themselves like others on this list has.
