We dont know. Only the people in the room know. Torts doesnt just pull names out of a hat and say you are out. There is logic to his decisions whether you agree with it or not. He is a well respected coach and many players state they loved playing for him. He isnt just benching guys because he doesnt like them. If that was the case Frost wouldnt be playing. Every player has a role. Not everyones role is the same so the standards for each player is different because the expectation for each player is different. The expectation for someone like Poehling is lower because he has limited skill. If Frost is playing at the same level as Poehling, that is not acceptable because Frost should be much better. Your #2 C should have a higher standard than your 4th.

An argument can be made that Michkov has been directly responsible for losses. He shouldn't sit.
- MJL

He is a special case. Flyers cant afford to rub him the wrong way plus he's already the best player on the team. I dont know you can even sit him if he hits a wall.

Torts will have no issue benching him. GMDB has already stated as much publicly.

You cant compare them to Michkov. There is a significant talent discrepency between them. Michkov was considered to be on par talent wise with Bedard. There was likely a talk with Torts saying he cant do some of the stuff he does with other kids. They cant afford to lose this kid.

TF and Brink are young kid thats are going to struggle and have growing pains. Jack Hughes is a more skilled player than both players and he didnt just come to the NHL at a top level we see today. He had 20 and 30 point seasons his 1st two years. Then he made the jump to 50-60 points the 3rd year.

It is going to take time to see what we want from these kids. As long as they are directly responsible for loses, they should be in the lineup. Zamula was someone directly responsible for loses which is why he has been sat.

- xShoot4WarAmpsx

We definitely agree on Zamula. All I’m going to say is, nothing in October bothers me. I don’t think Brink or Foerster have done anything special when they do play. In terms of play, I’m seeing little to no difference between the second, third and fourth lines. If Michkov wasn’t a point per game player, he’d probably be sitting.

How many games did Jack get to ride the pine in the press box?

Torts is full of crap.

Tippett makes mistake after mistake after mistake when it comes to defensive play, but he never sits. Hathaway has taken many bad penalties, he never sits and Laughton has blown countless coverages and he never sits.

Torts has his faves and they can do no wrong. The sooner this narcissistic clown is gone, the better.

Absolutely, all one has to do is look at Drysdale. He has been brutal. I rather him play but if Torts actually treated the players the same you would scratch Tippet, GH, The Room, Drysdale, etc...

No it isn't. Who is coming in? The Jett™ and The Bonk™? Who else? Who is leaving? They have already shown that they have no interest in trading players on expiring contracts.

3 first rd picks in next draft plus a top 5 pick, I'm pretty sure a top 5 pick plays

Tortorella is well known for extreme biases and irrational decision making on lineup choices. If we go by your standard of it being logical whether we agree with it or not, then nobody can criticize a decision. If Poehling has limited skill then why does Tortorella continually elevate him in the lineup? Does he say we don't need to get the results from playing Poehling in the top 6 because he has a lower skill but I'm going to play him there anyway? You're refuting your own argument. We're talking about according to you, playing the coaches way. Does that only apply to a top 6 player but not a bottom 6 player. How about a top 6 winger in Tippett?

Foerster scored in game 1 against Vancouver and scored in game 9 against Boston. What has Foerster done in between? You guys say you want accountability but this posts says otherwise.

Thanks for making this argument easy for me though.

32 years ago today, I saw the Flyers & Blues square off in the old Checkerdome in STL. Sadly, Eric Lindros was given a game misconduct 3:27 into the game for roughing up little Nelson Emerson.

Only other memories I have of that Flyers loss was the organ player played 'Casper The Friendly Ghost' every time Steve Kasper was on the ice, and that Vitali Prokhorov had a hat trick for the Blues. Oh, and the two drunk guys with seats next to us who showed up 10:00 minutes into the game, asked where Lindros was, then promptly left after we told them he'd be kicked out of the game.

There is a bigger difference from a 19 year old kid playing in north America then a 23 year old kid who has been in the program for a bit

Well isnt he? If Michkov goes to Briere and says he wants Torts gone. You think he isn't going to side with his future Star? Torts would be gone in a heartbeat. Flyers can say whatever they want but they will move mountains for this kid to keep him here and happy. No other player on this team has that power. Everyone else can be replaced

He is 19 years old. He doesn't have any power over who coaches the team. What is Michkov going to do, sit out? LOL

Ask for a trade, Go back to Russia, Sign an offersheet to go elsewhere in 3 years. Basically look for any way to leave. Even if the KHL respects the NHL contract, He can go back and play in the KHL in 3 years. That is more harmful to the Flyers than Michkov

Yep, it's a bad team, so play the kids and let them work through their issues. You don't scratch Brink for 3 games and you don't scratch your 20 goal 2nd year player at all. Especially for a journeyman borderline 4th liner who is going to play 4 minutes.

It is not rocket science.

So define accountability. You have no idea what it means, especially in this context.

- MBFlyerfan

Sorry I missed this.

Tell you what? I’ll play your make believe game with you. Since you can tell me the very definition of accountability in the world of coach, can you apply for Torts’ job once it’s available? I mean you sound qualified.

Honestly it seems that many things are hard for you to understand. Like how my comment was dripping in sarcasm directed to the people who have screeched how OT can score 40 goals easily when he has not even touched 30
- corduroy

Wait, what? When did I say Owen Tippett would be a 40 goal scorer and when were these comments directed at me? Most importantly, why don’t you just say Tippett because when people talk hockey and you say OT, nobody is thinking Owen Tippett.

I wish I didn’t get busy and saw this comment sooner. I’ve never been part of a conversation where Tippett is described as a 40 goal scorer, so I’m definitely not gonna understand the sarcasm.
