I see a lot of similarities between Kane and Bedard only in this respect ……
Neither are enthusiastic about playing defense. Sometimes they really lack effort coming back or in their own zone. I don’t see that changing. But when the game is on the line and the puck is on their stick, look out.
Bedard is a better shooter. Kane a better playmaker. - Ztra
You know i think Bedard wants to win and if that's the case i think he understands he needs to be better defensively. Let's give it a minute to see how his game evolves defensively to offensively. |

Still think the best way to win is to get Bedard going.
And right now Luke hasn't found the right combo of linemates for him.
I think Chief from barstool is right, put 98 at wing and see what happens. |

Is having him at wing or center better in the long run? |

He is coming back from a broken foot…. - bhawks2241
Watching only a few full games Lev has played, including jrs and NCAA, the kid is a low heart rate athlete. One of those guys whose heart rate never gets above 50 beats per minute..... A calm approach that most would seem to go into urgency mode.
But again, waaay too early to say anything definitive about the player other than the kid has some elite traits.

It's nice to see Reichel gaining some steam in the past however many games. That was a really nice move and play to get up the ice and set up Smith. I do see what fatty is talking about how he kind of roves high, i hope over time he gets a little lower and keeps his stick on the ice to prevent those across ice passes that have been ending up in the back of the net. |

Donato making himself a valuable trade chip. Good for him. - LAHawk
The TDL is gonna be interesting as it was last yr. No sell off and in fact extended D!ckinson and Foligno(?) too.
Does KD extend a vet, decide either way that Nazar is or isn't ready for an NHL middle 6 spot after only a yr in RKF and if so does that affect what he does at the TDL, they're playing well and he's happy to let guys walk at yrs end for all that winning brings to Bedard's and the rest of their development, have a fire sale for picks 2-3 yrs out, look to get a top 6 ready prospect for a Murphy from a desperate playoff squad?
Interesting to watch the organIzation make the sausage........ |

My point is Levshunov is wired kinda like a goalie who plays like Price. They're bombarding Price with rubber and his heartbeat stays at 50. ...... Not saying it's a flaw for Lev but I'm not saying it isn't either. Waaaay too early to say, kid turned 19 last week and has taken massive leaps up in class every yr.
I bet EDM fans say Bouchard has a low work rate!!

Mrazek faced 40 shots... Should be the #1 star of the game. Stole that one.
The team had their worst 2 periods of the year and then still pulls off a win. Proves you have to play a full 60 minutes. I'm sure that's what the LA broadcasters must be saying. - Popsghostly
Mrazek has been the #1 star pretty much since he became a Hawk. For a guy with an injury history he's been very healthy as a Hawk. ... They better do whatever they can to keep it that way.

I didn't see 3rd and OT, idiot me, was pissed about what I was watching and didn't want to waste a Saturday................
But in watching the highlights, that was a pretty remarkable move that Bedard made in OT.
Telling me, he just needs a bit more space 5 on 5 then he's getting. I'm thinking if he had better linemates, he'd be getting just a bit more space and would look special.

Caught the WHL Edmonton at Seattle game live last night, really good game, Edmonton won 5-4 in a shootout. Some game notes:
Blake Fiddler, RD, 6-4, 209 (Wiz #18 2025 draft) is the son of Vernon Fiddler, long time forward for Nashville, Phoenix, Dallas, etc. Blake Fiddler was the top pick in the CHL import draft, taken by Edmonton. His size is noticeable and he looks slightly top-heavy (and was toppled once during the game in the d-zone), but has some room to add some lower-body bulk. He skates well, and has very good puck handling; roves east-west easily in all zones. Has some NHL sense already; for example, he has high energy shifts and does not extend them.
Learning to be physical in the defensive zone, moves smoothly, looks to exit by passing rather than carrying. Played on the left side a little and didn't look uncomfortable. He and his d partner got lost twice on a nice back-door play Seattle was running; one of these was a goal against. Also made a couple of exit passes through the middle that were intercepted and resulted in Seattle chances. No major flaws - all the errors seem like correctable things.
Able to carry easily in the neutral zone but always looking for the pass. On offense he pinched in a few times and took the puck behind the net with some mixed results. Created chances but also lost the puck a couple of times and was then behind the play. Has a good low shot but can also lift the puck as well. A quick lateral move, receiving the puck and a hard quick shot resulted in his goal tying the game at 4-4 in the third. Had a nice keep-in and pass to create a scoring chance.
Talent is definitely there for the 2025 first round, if he lasts to the Toronto pick will be fair value or maybe a bargain.
---------------
Old favorite Gracyn Sawchyn returned to Seattle and had one assist for Edmonton; he has continued to get better, and FLA might have a nice middle 6 player in a couple of years. His younger brother Lukas Sawchyn is also on the Edmonton team, and is draft eligible for 2025. He is smaller and thicker than his older brother, but plays a similar game. Made an excellent reverse pass in front across the goal mouth to set up a teammate for a score. Has 1-8-9 points in 14 games and could be considered in the mid to late rounds.
For Seattle, Brayden Cootes (C, 6-0, 183, 2025 eligible, 5-10-15 pts in 16 games) had a goal and 6 shots. Cootes was a B prospect in the Central Scouting rankings, so he might be a mid-rounder.
Of note, Edmonton has forward Joe Iginla (2026 eligible), another son of Jarome Iginla on the roster but he did not play last night. Has 1-1-2 pts in 11 games so far. Like his brother will probably develop over this year and next, and should be interesting to see how he turns out. He is a smaller player right now being 5-10, 165. - totem
Thank you, totem!!........ Will you see Saskatoon live this yr? Damn fun club to watch.

Yeah, Hawks should trade him while his value is high, maybe get Tavares back for him. |
